What you need to do, is make some holiday plans.
You know in advance when you'll be off work, so can you not make plans in advance of these dates so you won't be bored?

It's a rather good book by Mervyn Peake (admittedly it is quite hard going) and a rather better BBC adaptation some 10ish years ago which launched the career of Jonathan Rhys Meyers, better known as King Henry VIII in The Tudors.
