As I mature and near 30 I have begun to think about things I like.
I have decided, after great consideration, that Blood Sugar Sex Magik is my favourite ever album.

What are some of your favourites?
(, Thu 4 Aug 2011, 23:24, 43 replies, latest was 15 years ago)
really?
Have you heard other music?
my favourite albums change depending on mood. Favourite songs, however:
EverLong - Foo Fighters
Mayonnaise - Smashing Pumpkins
Daylight Fading - Couting Crows
We used to Wait - Arcade Fire
Paranoid Android - Radiohead

Favourite concerto - Grieg's Piano one (in A, I think)

Will that do for an overlong answer?

How about favourite number? I like 6 best.
(, Thu 4 Aug 2011, 23:32, Reply)
I was as surprised as you but it is.
It won in all categories considered. I like 4 the most don't know why.
(, Thu 4 Aug 2011, 23:35, Reply)
I like 6 because it's red and a nice conceptual shpae
but that all depends on being synaesthetic
(, Thu 4 Aug 2011, 23:37, Reply)
red? do numbers have colours?

(, Thu 4 Aug 2011, 23:39, Reply)
if you're synaesthetic then yes
it's all about your brain interpreting things via other senses, or something. To me numbers and words are colours (and also shapes, but not as you think I mean), smells can be colours or sound, sound has colour and shape. Concepts tend to be the same sort of shape/colour thing, too so I sometimes have theories which I can 'see' work but have to make them into words.

Happens most when I'm tired
(, Thu 4 Aug 2011, 23:42, Reply)
That is cool, just been looking it up in some of my books,
what colour is 4 for you?
(, Thu 4 Aug 2011, 23:44, Reply)
blue
it's not the same for everyone
(, Thu 4 Aug 2011, 23:45, Reply)
and shape?

(, Thu 4 Aug 2011, 23:46, Reply)
I can't tell you the shape
they only exist in my brain space, that's why it's not really shape so much as a 'conceptual' shape which is also related to the colour. This is not a good description, really, but language sucks at this
(, Thu 4 Aug 2011, 23:48, Reply)
you are totally my favourite mentallist ever.
Super serial!
(, Thu 4 Aug 2011, 23:50, Reply)
it's not that uncommon!
something like 1 in 20 have it to some degree - especially people who do arty things. I was about 14 before I realised everyone else didn't.
(, Thu 4 Aug 2011, 23:54, Reply)
It's frickin awesome, I would love to experience it.

(, Fri 5 Aug 2011, 0:02, Reply)
it's pretty cool,
although once I was so hot and tired when I was playing in a concert with the orchestra that I kept getting distracted by the colours of the notes. Given I'm pretty bad at it anyway, I suspect I was playing atrociously.
(, Fri 5 Aug 2011, 0:08, Reply)
I get it sometimes with, shall we say, physical experiences...
Usually colours and shapes. It's not the sort of thing you can ask others if they experience as well.
(, Fri 5 Aug 2011, 0:17, Reply)
haha! yeah
done that too! If I'm really tired if someone strokes my arm or something it's like it's a concept or idea. I've had to ask previous boyfriend not to touch me for 20 minutes or so just because it was making me feel woozy
(, Fri 5 Aug 2011, 0:27, Reply)
The composer Olivier Messiaen was synaesthetic, and saw strong links between music and colour.
This unique perspective was part of what made his harmonic "language" so rich and varied.
(, Thu 4 Aug 2011, 23:55, Reply)
Ok Ok, you can be my second favourite.

(, Thu 4 Aug 2011, 23:56, Reply)
There was a famous conductor
who would demand the orchestra play more 'blue'
(, Thu 4 Aug 2011, 23:57, Reply)
I quite like Steely Dan's album "Aja".
It's a rare beast that's slappably smug and addictively tuneful at the same time.
(, Thu 4 Aug 2011, 23:33, Reply)
sd are a band to nurture.
aja is a good place to start.
