I think it's normally made with milk and custard powder.
I guess custard powder (which, incidently, is the most explosive thing you can buy in a shop) must be dried egg yolks and cream.

I always make ice cream by making custard first
milk, double cream, eggs, sugar, vanilla. The cherry and amaretto one I made was fucking lush.
