Apollo 440's cover of Don't Fear the Reaper lured me from general prog rock and metal into a much wider world of music.
Since the first album I ever bought was Marillion's "Script for a Jester's Tear" (see above) I'll throw in Forgotten Sons from that album.
I had a deep tongue session with Mandy Welch when I was 15 to Siouxsie and the Banshees' Spellbound
I had several dates with a bird called Kim on the strength of intially lending her the Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime album.
Can't think of any more right now.

It's the fucking dog's. Her and Budgie supported by a full orchestra. Utterly superb, even if her voice does start to crack in a few places.

Hats off - All the wank that Marillion subsequently came up with is eclipsed by that.

My favourite from the album. Just *enough* artwank wordplay and a decent tune.

for a Music exam pre O level. I think I got a B on the strength of being one of two out of fifteen boys who actually had a sort of alright attempt.
I can still hear it in my head 30 years later, bum notes and overbreathing and all.

one of the things I am secretly proud of is that I have grade 2 descant recorder. I was 2% off a distinction, too. Most importantly it was 30% more than I guy who (years later) got 5 As at A level
