Going to see Half Man Half Biscuit next week
Going out for a meal with some work colleagues on Friday night at Jamie Oliver's Italian, menu looks quite nice : www.jamieoliver.com/italian/food-menu

that does look quite nice
I get to eat at my favourite restaurant next week. I'm pleased.
(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 8:58, Reply)
Which is where?
I am enjoying living in the city centre, there's a lot of good eating out options.

the Seafood Café in St Ives

(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:04, Reply)
I hear St Ives is full of polygamists

(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:15, Reply)
I have not experienced that for myself

(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:17, Reply)
They have a serious cat overpopulation issue as well

(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:22, Reply)
Not anymore, they all left...

(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:25, Reply)
it's ok though
because everyone is entitled to take a sack full when they leave
(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:25, Reply)
You lucky sod. Where are they playing?

Also, Jamie's Italian is actually really good, given that it's the same price as Pizza Express. It's not going to change your life, but you shouldn't be disappointed.

Leamington Assembly
I can get the train there and back woo! Although my track record with Leamington trains isn't great.
(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:01, Reply)
I had a look to see if they were playing London anytime soon.
They don't gig much, do they?: cobweb.businesscollaborator.com/hmhb/guest/index.htm

You missed them in June, looks like

(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:07, Reply)
Yeah, (although I read that as Jan when I first looked and thought it was for 2012, so was a little disappointed when I realsied)

(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:11, Reply)
Don't get the spaghetti bolognese

(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:00, Reply)
Why, does he wank in that?

(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:01, Reply)
Looks it

(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:03, Reply)
Duly noted
I am leaning towards the Lamb Spiedini or the Wild Boar Sausages, anyway.
(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:04, Reply)
I'm worried now.
Because I ate that and thought it was good.

I may as well just invite Jamie round to jizz down my throat then.
(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:04, Reply)
Although
he'd probably send one of those ASBO kids to do it anyway.
(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:05, Reply)
It was very nice.
I have always enjoyed well-seasoned tan-coloured mince. My great grandma made it a lot.
It's just if someone is expecting a bolognese sauce they might be a little surprised.
(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:06, Reply)
I imagine what you get is a proper bolognese sauce, then.
it's not supposed to have tomatoes in it.
(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:13, Reply)
Yes it is. Don't start that nonsense.
I know too many italian people.
(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:14, Reply)
I'm not starting that "nonsense"
it genuinely isn't. It's a slow-cooked meat ragu with a small quantity (like a couple of tablespoons) of tomato puree for colour and richness only. Even Wikipedia accepts that.
(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:17, Reply)
I accept everything you say, and you just mentioned tomato purée.
That contains tomatoes.
Case closed.
(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:18, Reply)
"tomatoes" was what I said, not puree.
Plus, it's a tiny amount and it's only to change the colour.

Soffritto, veal, pork, stock, wine, maybe milk. herbs and seasoning and a tiny bit of puree to colour it.
(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:24, Reply)
Where did I say it should be chock full of tomatoes?
I said it's red and they put more than a tiny bit, because they like it coloured.
ALSO, TOMATO PURÉE CONTAINS TOMATO. That makes meals with puree inside them meals that contain tomato.
(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:26, Reply)
thai fish sauce contains anchovies
I suspect you'd get fairly short shrift suggesting that one of the ingredients of thai green curry was anchovies.

If I'd have meant it had nothing tomato-based in it I'd have said "no tomato" not "no tomatoes".

Which, I grant you, is a very subtle difference, and easily missed, but I'm having a cunt of a week so I'm going to be pointlessly belligerent about it.
(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:30, Reply)
I do think
that anyone with a fish or tomato allergy would disagree with this though.

But as you say, it's a fine distinction.

This is why I love B3ta. Where else could I be discussing what constitutes something having tomatoes in it at 9.38 on a Thursday morning?
(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:38, Reply)
anyone with a fish allergy deserves to die.
/harsh thursday.
(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:43, Reply)
Aw, they don't bother me.+
Peanut allergy sufferers can fuck off though. Making me eat pretzels instead of nuts on planes just because their mothers didn't eat any peanuts during pregnency because they are scared of everything The Daily Mail tells them to be scared of.
(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:50, Reply)
Selfish cunts.

(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:56, Reply)
Oh
I stand corrected. I thought you meant tomato of any description.
(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:18, Reply)
for some reason
I really like the word 'ragu'
(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:19, Reply)
Are you on a Ragu Tip?

(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:20, Reply)
I am not

(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:22, Reply)
I am.

I'm going to fucking hunt you down and kill you slowly. Regardless of any previous positivity I may have had towards you.
(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:25, Reply)
I may have already done myself in
because I can't get it out of my head now.
(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:26, Reply)
What?
It bloody should! It shouldn't have a lot of the shit we put in it, but it should definitely have tomato.

Apparently it also should have milk, mind you, which makes my stomach turn a little.
(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:15, Reply)
it has a small amount of tomato puree in for colour
it has no tomatoes in it. Trust me on this.

It's become so bastardised away from Bologna that, yeah, it pretty much always does have tomoatoes in. I'm not getting food Nazi, I don't care, it tastes good either way, but if the fat-tounged monkey makes it in the traditional way in his restaurant I'm afraid he is right
(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:21, Reply)
I saw that above.
Crossed wires (or a slightly different definition of what constitutes having tomatoes in it, I guess).
(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:22, Reply)
I've had one made from the recipe in his book
The creme fraiche fucking ruined it.
(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:06, Reply)
It seems it's been checked by the Health Department
as some people have seen mice running on the tables.
(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:13, Reply)
they're appetisers
it's tres chic.
(, Thu 8 Sep 2011, 9:16, Reply)
Tres chic
is not italian. As wasn't the mouse.
