You've been away
Everytime something was mentioned about the gyppos being evicted from Dale Farm, Gonz would pop up and say 'what if it were Jews? Would you still condone this eviction you racists'

Aha
I assume Monty then replied "All the more", or some such?

The has a point
there is a lot of casual racism aimed at gypsies/travelers, even in mainstream news papers.

It's not like they can fight back
To paraphrase the Wizard of Oz, everyone can get behind the cause of having a really good enemy. It doesn't need to be fair.

Very true.
It just annoys me when it gets in the way of the facts. which, by way of a disclaimer does not =seem to be the case with Dale Farm.
(, Wed 21 Sep 2011, 12:13, Reply)
I know.
well, except not in the case of travellers, who aren't a race.

And Dale Farm is travellers.

Oh, and as the Daily Mash succinctly points out, since they are on the one hand claiming their ancient travelling culture should be protected and on the other saying they've been there for 10 years and their kids are settled in school etc ... it does rather beg the point, they really aren't very good at travelling, are they?
(, Wed 21 Sep 2011, 12:19, Reply)
I never said I supported them and for the record I don't
They are legally in the wrong as far as I understand it, simple as.

A lot of people seems to have an emotional reaction against them simply because they are travellers though and this is a prejudice, if not racism, which I dislike not least because it is counter factual and pointless and leads to bad, emotion-led judgements.

Nah, that part or your point I agree with.
I'm just equally prejudiced against all arseholes that want something for nothing.
(, Wed 21 Sep 2011, 12:24, Reply)
I'm glad you see the inherent rightness of my position.
I shall not get into issues where I know nothing of the facts.

Like that cunt Oliver
You'll have the same amount as gruel as the other peasant boys you obsequious shitehawk

Woah, don't be comparing me to that fat-tongued mockney twathammer
for a start I can cook a decent meal without turning into an exitable prick.

*looks aghast*
I would NEVER do such a thing. He makes me want to punch people in the face on the incredibly slim off chance that he turns out to be one of them.

Also
when they bought the land, they were told 'don't build permanent houses, because you won't be allowed to keep them'. But they did, and then seemed affronted when reminded of this fact at a later date.
(, Wed 21 Sep 2011, 12:24, Reply)
I find the "well half of us did it legally
but we're a community, so we should be allowed to stay together, and anyway we didn't understand the laws properly so we should be let off or something" argument to be fucking annoying. I don't understand tax law but that doesn't mean I should be let off not paying it. And if one of my mates buys a big house I shouldn't be given one next door just because we go to the fucking pub together.
(, Wed 21 Sep 2011, 12:30, Reply)
The only thing I don't get
is why they are evicting them rather than just knocking down their houses.
(, Wed 21 Sep 2011, 12:37, Reply)
I thought they were evicting them TO knock down their houses?
as knocking down houses with people in them is cruel even for Essex.
(, Wed 21 Sep 2011, 12:42, Reply)
Fucking totally would.
Assuming that the discrimination was on the grounds of them breaking the bloody law, not actually being gypsies. Which is the case here.

that, and they need the odd gassing or they spread TB. Or is that badgers?
