I bought a dress I absolutely could not afford
on the basis that it was 35% off. I mean, I was saving money, it was pretty much obligatory to buy it. Yes, I know this probably comes under what could be called 'girl logic' and I am ashamed of it...however it is a very nice dress.

I have no motherfucking lunch today because I was supposed to be taken out by a member of staff who has now cancelled. I didn't bring anything with me because of course I assumed we were going out and I have no fucking money. Joys, joys.

I am looking for a new watch...but I only seem to like really, really expensive ones
my favourite is £3k
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 11:46, Reply)
I think mine cost £50

(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 11:47, Reply)
My current one was about a ton I suppose about 9 years ago

(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 11:49, Reply)
There's no way I'd wear anything worth that much on a daily basis
christ, even the engagement ring I've decided I'd want, should anyone ever want to buy me one, is only £700.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 11:50, Reply)
The little woman's engagement ring was more than that watch...but it is specially insured
However it includes 2 diamonds from her grandmothers ring, and it would be sad to lose them, even though they aren't great diamonds
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 11:52, Reply)
Yeah, there's no way I'd be comfortable with wearing something like that.
I'd be terrified it'd fall off or I'd lose it or the stones would fall out of their settings. And I don't see the point in jewellery you don't enjoy wearing.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 11:57, Reply)
I have nightmares about losing my engagement ring, first thing I do in the morning is check
I still have it on.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:07, Reply)
blimey
the one i've got my eye on is a tiffany cut and it's about £10,000.

this explains why nobody has bought it for me yet.

yes ok. there are other reasons too.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 11:54, Reply)
As long as it isn't from Tiffany's; waste of money

(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 11:58, Reply)
They aren't actually that bad, price wise
as they only really get mid-to-high quality diamonds so you'll know you're getting something that's pretty good and reasonable value for money. The volkswagen of the diamond world.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:05, Reply)
like, since there's no such thing as a tiffany cut, it doesn't exist? ;)

(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 11:58, Reply)
urrgh, setting then
you are such a pedant! i bet your wife is deaf!

(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:05, Reply)
I'm only such a pedant here becuase you love it.
Plus, you set that one up beautifully by saying there are other reasons why no-one had bought it for you. I offered one.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:06, Reply)
Seriously though, don't buy diamonds from Tiffanys they are massively overpriced
a decent jewller will replicate it for a much lower price
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:07, Reply)
darling
i have no intention of EVER buying my own diamonds.

badger is going to do it for me.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:08, Reply)
yeah, but you have to know what you're doing or trust the jeweller.
Most people don't have those options. They aren't THAT overpriced, either, to be fair. Maybe 20% over the odds.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:08, Reply)
20% at 10k is a lot of money!

(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:09, Reply)
Bloody hell that's a massive rock
you could have someone's eye out with that! Mine is here Oh, and it's £750, not £700, but still...
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:09, Reply)
We had ours made, so it is unique
which I rather like.

I proposed with her grandmothers ring on the banks of the Seine opposite the Musse d' Orsay as the Eiffel Tower lit up at Midnight. She had had tyto wait almost 7 years though!
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:11, Reply)
You romantic old gufter :)
In 7 years time I will be 33, and I'd really rather prefer to already be married by then, assuming it's ever going to happen at all.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:17, Reply)
Proffering someone's grandmother's puckered and withered arsehole is hardly romantic.

(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:18, Reply)
Yes, but I daresay my expectations are a little more realistic
given the income of the man I'd like to marry. Although he has been engaged before and spent more on that ring than the one I'd like, even though he was earning a lot less then. *shrugs*
Low expectations are more easily fulfilled. More easily pleased = more often happy.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 11:59, Reply)
hmmm
i have applied this logic to my love-life in the past.

it has not worked!!!
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:02, Reply)
Haha, well it hasn't always for me either
but I stick by it, and it seems to be working well at the moment.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:05, Reply)
Surely someone will sub you £5

(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 11:46, Reply)
The only two people in today are students
one, it's their last day so I can't borrow off them as I won't see them before I leave myself, and the other is perpetually skint, even more so than I am.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 11:49, Reply)
I could email you some toast?

(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 11:50, Reply)
Yes, perhaps if I start licking the screen
they'll assume I've gone mental and will send me home.

(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 11:57, Reply)
Oh girl logic, my downfall
I very very nearly spent a large portion of my tax rebate on a Matthew Williamson sheath dress in some vintage shop in Notting Hill just because I know it was about a quarter of normal retail price. But considering that is around £800 and I have absolutely no occasion to wear a gold beaded floor length gown (not a dress, a gown) I think sense prevailed.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 11:57, Reply)
Yes, if you have no use for it
don't buy it. It may break your heart to do so...but it's for the best.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:00, Reply)
The voice of unwavering reason. Unfortunately that has never stopped me wanting things before.
It's been there for about three months (probably due to the outside of the shop looking like a crack den so no one is aware of the delights inside). Maybe worth trying to haggle I think *shallow*
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:05, Reply)
Yes but from £200 down to what?
something equally improbable and unaffordable, I'm afraid. And if you still won't get to wear it...
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:05, Reply)
£160 :(
I'm definitely going to talk to you before impulse buys now. My bank balance will thank me.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:07, Reply)
If it helps at all
think of all the Kurt Geiger sale shoes you could get for that money! You might see some use out of them, too.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:21, Reply)
Almost impulse bought yesterday
but it would've wiped out the tiny amount of money I have. It was a beautiful coat though
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:25, Reply)
I bought a coat off ebay this week for £9 inc P&P
from Oasis last year, barely worn, £90 new, 60% wool coat and in a size 10 *capers gleefully*
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:33, Reply)
Damn you ;)
and congratulations on the 10. Also excellent bargain there
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:42, Reply)
Yeah, was pretty fucking chuffed with that one!

(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:44, Reply)
Where do you work?
Surely some rich Lawyer can pay for lunch for you on Just Eat :)
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 11:59, Reply)
Buy some food on eBay using Paypal
Sorted
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:10, Reply)
That was my initial thought
But what plank goes out without taking out a bank card?
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:11, Reply)
A berk?

*instant rimshot*

(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:22, Reply)
I have my bankcard
I just don't have any money in my account.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:33, Reply)
Well
Do you want some money for lunch or not?
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:35, Reply)
Oh! that's very sweet of you indeed
but I'll manage. I found a pear in my drawer and I'll just have lots of water.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2011, 12:38, Reply)
