Alt: recently, The Colour of Magic
Thought I should see what all the fuss was about. Imaginative in places, but I do enjoy a plot or an indication thereof in my books.

His first books aren't great, I've found
Mort is still my favourite though
(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 15:16, Reply)
That's my favourite of the four I've read
My opinion thus far is "they get better, right?"
(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 15:17, Reply)
Some are fantastic, Mort, Reaper Man, Jingo, Going Postal, Making Money, etc are examples of this
Then you have Small Gods, Colour Of Magic, Pyramids, etc.
(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 15:20, Reply)
It's not that I'm not enjoying them
it's more that thus far, the degree of fuss is a long way shy of justifiable
(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 15:21, Reply)
Ahh, I get you

(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 15:22, Reply)
Shh, don't tell everyone
They'll all want a bit
(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 15:23, Reply)
I quite like them
I devoured the first 10 or 12 when as they came out. Up to about The Hogfather, i think. That wasn't very good.

Then I read a couple more and thought they were basically all the same and didn't read one from the first vampire one (Carpe Diem?) until I picked up Going Postal a couple of years ago. Now I quite like them again. Although the recent football one wasn't very good.

All of the recent ones after Nightwatch
which is one of his best, in my opinion, are fairly pants. The early stuff is much better.
(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 15:27, Reply)
Nightwatch was the last one I read, absolutely excellent

(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 15:34, Reply)
I can't really remember which one is which anymore.
So I'll take your word for that.
(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 15:36, Reply)
Am determined to read them in something approximating the right order
this was reinforced by picking up Mort before Equal Rites, and reading about Granny Weatherwax's death before the book in which she is the first supporting character.
(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 15:41, Reply)
Notte Deade.

(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 15:44, Reply)
It's as if his head wasn't really in it after that one

(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 15:41, Reply)
I think he forgot how to plot a book.

(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 15:44, Reply)
I'm going to refer you back to The Colour of Magic here
That book has less plot than a bankrupt farmer
(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 15:47, Reply)
I was just making a bad joke
about his Alzheimer's.
(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 15:50, Reply)
Yes, I know that
You were also crediting him with knowledge of plot in the first place!
(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 15:52, Reply)
Touche.

(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 15:55, Reply)
Did I really just type that?
I fucking hate people that say 'touche'. Pretentious aresholes.
(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 15:55, Reply)
Am trying to think of something massively pretentious to say by way of reply
and failing. Curse my Northern roots.
(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 15:57, Reply)
Better get some more dye

(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 16:29, Reply)
Pretentious, moi?
Would be the default response in this situation, I feel.
(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 16:30, Reply)
Alzheimers lols.

(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 15:48, Reply)
Was it Black Magic?
What is the colour of magic? I hope it's white and not Eastern Europe white neither.

Proper British White.
(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 15:17, Reply)
Octarine

(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 15:18, Reply)
Probably been called that since before you were born too.

(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 15:24, Reply)
Octarine
Upon googling this I have learned it is, indeed, the colour of magic. And is sometimes referred to as the eigth colour.

Fucking geeks. Eigth colour indeed. My hard earned tax goes to educating a bunch of fucking Walter Mitty characters.

STOP WANKING AND GO OUTSIDE.

Turns out being born on the 30th of September 1973 imbues certain traits in a person

(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 15:31, Reply)
Right thinking traits.
Of gentlemen.
(, Wed 28 Sep 2011, 15:32, Reply)
I've heard of these concepts
and will have no truck with either
