A straight four beats in the bar, with four kicks. Take out the third kick and you have nu skool breaks.
Jungle may be 4/4 time but it's not four to the floor.
I can illustrate with links if need be.

so basically it's like the stuff that annoys me in the gym vs the stuff I quite like but know nothing about

in my head it's kinda dance-y (although I know that will rile you), but with a less annoying incessant beat (which I now know to refer to as 'four to the floor' when talking to 'the kids')

So you quite like decent house? The thing with house is that there is so much drivel that gets pushed out by Ministry of Sound and Pacha and that, when there is so much quality underground shit that is so much better.

I don't care enough to actuallylook for/buy/listen to it on purpose

What do you think of this one?

When it 'came out' I fucking loved it. I was obsessed. Muscular, yet screamingly camp. The polar opposite of me.

Never thought Anthony and the Johnsons would be made into a dance track.

Hercules & Love Affair asked Antony to sing on some tracks. It worked so fucking well though, amirite?
And the Frankie Knuckles remix is even more quendacious than the original.

That Onionz & Joeski tune is the one that made me change my mind about house.
The Roni Size one is nearly 15 years old now. Live drumming and double bass on that one too.

well my band has about 3 live double bass and sometimes a drummer
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 21:16, Reply)
And could your drummer play at 180 bpm?
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 21:19, Reply)
The drummer in Reprazent also played drums for Portishead at the time, and these days he plays for Robert Plant in Strange Sensation.

The timescale of the references is of no importance.
It made sense to me and I commented thusly.
You what?

DnB/Jungle and to a lesser extent, breaks (but not tech funk) are all about the basslines and the snaredrums.
House, techno and the housier end of breakbeat (tech funk especially) is all about the kickdrums.

In my pretentious, teenage years I dug HR Giger.

If you like, you can imagine me spitting some mad rhymes over it if you insist on strong vocals.
