In all honestly, you really could. There are a lot of buisness people out there who don't have a clue and would rather set a budget and pay someone.
You go and sit with them for an hour or two, talk about their family and friends, make a list of who they need to sort out, budget it and there you go.

Personal shoppers are big busnesses in the more affluent states, like LA and New York.

you have to know absolutely *everything* about all the latest trends and designers.

I'm really good at buying presents for people, so that would be an ace job. But I don't think the demand would be that great here in the West Country. You know how those business types get their secretary to buy their wife's birthday present? I could totally do that.

Totally worth a punt, if you ask me.
I'm close enough to a town centre that I can walk for 10 minutes and have most shops imaginable in any town center, but far enough that noisy drunks and traffic won't bother me. And it's 25m into central london =)

Yeah', it's really a big deal, especially if you're looking for work or clients.
It's been nicknamed "The facebook of buisness", and I agree with that. I would be careful when giving them your contact/email addresses to find people as they'll send out email to so many people if you're not reading it carefully.... anyone you've ever sent an email to or from.

Yeah', give it a shot when you're heads a bit more straight, worst comes to it you've wasted a few hours, no big deal... but if it pulls off, then you're sorted.
