Hmm, the pomp is strong with this one.
Hijack question:

What would you do, buy a hobby car that is going to break down lots but that you'll know you'll enjoy fixing up (or other long term investment, short term ballache substitute) or go on lots of holidays (short term gain, but gives you nothing long term but memories)?

I basically have a choice between the holidays
and buying a car I've wanted for years. I am so confused :(

I have a boiler suit and disposable gloves. Admittedly I tend to use them for murdering, rather than mechanics, but I suppose I could double up.

You can steal cars but you can't steal a holiday.
Just saying.

You have to tell us what car!
I've always wanted a particular car but decided to buy a flat instead!

One of my first cars was a mk2 Golf gti.
It was a nail, but I loved it. After buying (at the then-gf's insistence) two newer cars that were supposed to be more reliable that just costed me progressively more money than the Golf ever did, I want another one.
