No one cares if evening guests don't turn up
All the daytime people are already drunk and usually the evening food caters for about 3/4 of the expected number of guests and there is still always loads left over.

I didn't even get any of the cheese I paid for. And I only had one bit of cake.

And I spilt red wine on my wife's dress. Though that was really her fault for knocking my hand.
