Starting your own country.
Apparently, it's not that difficult to do, and get recognised as a microstate. Failing that, fuck it, go for a micronation.
What would you call yours? What laws would you pass? Name of your currency? And would you take up a seat in the UN, in the unlikely ocurence you were actually offered one?

There was a guy who stood for the European paliment in MK who wanted it to become an independant city state.
I'd have a flat tax system with no exemptions, entire tax code should be written on 1 A4 sheet. No VAT, NI anything like that just a taxable rate set at dunno 30% of earnings. All jobs are advertised after tax.

Evidence based policy, with every policy to be reviewed every 3 years. Referrendums on most big issues via the internet. Voting is compulsory but there will always be a "none of the above" style option.
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 13:12, Reply)
Referendums are a fucking stupid idea if you already have a system of elected representatives

(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 13:18, Reply)
Yes if you have a stupid populas, but I'm assuming this country is a couple of hundred rather than a couple of million.

(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 13:22, Reply)
Oh, okay. In which case I propose the system adopted in "The Stand" with a 7 person executive committee
with an old woman who has visions from god with the power of veto.
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 13:26, Reply)
I tried watching that once.
God it was dull. And loooooooooooong
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 13:27, Reply)
I'm reading the book
I'm really, really enjoying it. I've not read Stephen King before, but I can see why he sold so many books now.
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 13:28, Reply)
The Stand is my Fav. King book

(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 13:33, Reply)
I'm concerned I may have started with his best one and everything else will be a series of crushing dissapointments.

(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 13:35, Reply)
I'm not a big King fan, but I did enjoy "The Stand"

Woo Milton Keynes!
Featured on PM last night on Radio 4 - www.bbc.co.uk/radio/player/b01lv26n - about 27 minutes in.

I heard it, they were a bit dissmissive, but then it is radio 4.

They pointed out that they originally planned a clever system of phased traffic lights
but at the last minute thought "fuck it, roundabouts it is" and that by allowing you to drive a 60mph everywhere it pushed all the shops back from the roads and made it souless and unpleasant.

Which is all spot on.
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 13:28, Reply)
I prefer roundabouts to traffic lights.
And yeah, it's souless when you're on a dual carrigeway. The north circular isn't exactly pleasant.
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 13:31, Reply)
That's where you're wrong.
You can talk to the gypsys that try and wash your windscreen and they draw a little heart in soap suds first so you like them even though you are waving at them and shouting "FUCK OFF".

Afternoon

I will give the question some thought
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 13:14, Reply)
I'd have a crack at the UN.
In fact I'd probably have a go at politics, except I know I'd end up being broken by whichever party into being a typical career politican without any aim other than staying in power.
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 13:15, Reply)
Never mind that, all of you go to board and vote for foot in mouth on the qotw vote.

(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 13:22, Reply)
I voted for Unexpected Sexiness
hopefully a girl will mention her breasts online.
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 13:24, Reply)

It wouldn't be that awful
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 13:32, Reply)
Also, as we're basically agressive sods, which country would you have a go at first?
I'd go for Belgium. Or maybe the Vatican, as they're tiny.
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 13:24, Reply)
Yeah, attacking the Vatican would have no repercussions.

(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 13:25, Reply)
it'd remove a lot of stupid people from powerful positions.

(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 13:29, Reply)
What are they going to do? Pray on you?
Fuck 'em, quick air strike, job done.
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 13:29, Reply)
They're protected by the Swiss, it might be the only way to ever get Swizerland to go to war.

(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 13:30, Reply)
Really?
I didn't know that. I know they're called the Swiss Guard, but I didn't think they were actually from Switzerland.
(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 13:34, Reply)
Yeah, they used to be the best army in the world, so the pope signed a deal with them.

(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 13:39, Reply)

(, Thu 16 Aug 2012, 13:41, Reply)
The Swiss have been kept neutral for ages,
so countries can continue to trade, even whilst at war. For example, ATT, the merican phone people, and Ford Motors continued to sell shit to the Germans during WW2. The Swiss run banking, cheque clearance etc.

Dear Mr. Ray
For a year now I have studied your Time Cube truths but have not been
able to convince others of its reality (dumbasses). My mother is a teacher,
and she said it was "nutty" and "stupid." But guess what- I cornered her,
literally, in the living room one evening, and forced her to admit it.

IN ORDER TO GET HER TEACHING CERTIFICATE, SHE HAD TO SIGN AN AFFIDAVIT STATING THAT SHE WOULD UPHOLD THE GREENWICH MYTH UNTIL DEATH. I shit you not. It has been revealed.

American teachers are sworn to fight against the truth of Time Cube.
