I have 5h of prime 70s Led Zeppelin live shows on DVD
and have come to the conclusion that they were much better in the studio than they were live. The opposite is true of The Who: if you watch their Isle of Wight DVD or their performance at Woodstock you will see what I mean. Much less self-indulgent and a tighter ship all round.

Led Zepplin took themselves FAR too seriously

'Moby Dick' in particular is dreadful.
The only one of theirs I play with any regularity at all is their 1st LP.

I've heard the same about Pink Floyd in their prime too
Especially at Pompeii.

They took themselves far too seriously as well
Roger Waters, I'm looking at you here

Live at Pompeii is a perfect example of that.

Supposedly they were alright in real life
It was other artists that were massive arseholes, Meat Loaf being one of them

In his defence, it wasn't just his arsehole that was massive

Roger Waters is a well-known arsehole.
David Gilmour, on the other hand, is supposedly nice as pie and will do anything for you, not up his own arse at all. Seems grateful for what he has.

He comes across as quite humble and ashamed, even, at how wealthy he became.

He also did a very great deal for Barrett when he was recording his solo stuff
and gets little credit for it. He is a 'Monty Boyce Offical Good Egg'

Pink Floyd were shite by 1968.
That Pompeii film shows them hanging on by a gossamer thread to their Barrett era magic.

Never been a fan of them, so couldn't possibly comment

Their 1st LP and handful of singles are some of the best English psychedelia recorded.
Everything else is fucking dismal and The Wall has a special place in my heart as the most awful, tedious, pompous pile of shit to be found outside my posts on here.
