Best weekend in a long while was going LARPing with Cavey and her mates.
Take the piss all you like but it was awesome fun, like being a kid again and playing games in the woods, but with bigger, bigger toy guns and alcohol.

It just takes really, truly ceasing to care what any bugger thinks of you :)
ALt: battenburg, named after the queen.

*shrug*
better that than crippling insecurity and the sneasking suspicion that no one really likes you...

I have loads of friends and extremely high standards.
Do you still have that ridiculous moustache?

I have to say, I did a "taster" of LARP at a convention for something else
and I do recall taking on a werewolf and being backed into a corner without a silver weapon before my party mates who did turned up and just standing very very quietly in the corner trying not to get killed while they fought it right in front of me.

Sounds shit but it was v exciting.

Evidence - it's the only bit I remember from that Con

sounds more bent than Emvee's Warhammer 40K 'novels'.

(, Fri 19 Oct 2012, 22:52, Reply)
it's improv with rules for those who read a lot
it's ok for you to admit you're either illiterate or unimaginative, we're all friends here.
(, Fri 19 Oct 2012, 22:55, Reply)
I'm extremely well read and very creative.
Also have an Honours degree in literature, hence my disdain for SF and fantasy. Not to mention graphic 'novels'.
(, Fri 19 Oct 2012, 22:59, Reply)
how good a degree, just out of curiosity?

(, Fri 19 Oct 2012, 23:02, Reply)
what does that mean?
Ah, sorry. I see.

One more A and I would have got a First.
(, Fri 19 Oct 2012, 23:03, Reply)
just wonder if you did better in your lit degree than I did in mine, not that I think it's relevent but as you were willy waving I thought I'd ssee if mine was bigger. :)
Edit: ah,, 2.1 like me then.

I specialised in Postmodernism/American fiction.
I'll go back and do a masters on Blank Generation fiction when I can afford it.

And I constantly have at least two books on the go, so lolling at the 'for those who read a lot' comment. There's a fairly big difference between reading SF and Fantasy and reading literary fiction.

Can't be that good if he disdains genre novels simply for their genre
smells like a third to me.
(, Fri 19 Oct 2012, 23:06, Reply)
thing about DOze is he needs someone to look down on
if it makes him happy....
(, Fri 19 Oct 2012, 23:07, Reply)
nope.
High 2.1.

I find the term 'genre novels' really funny by the way.

I have no real beef with SF as a genre; I like William Gibson and I love JG Ballard. But the whole epic novels thing is just really fucking childish. I'm posting from my phone so don't really fancy outlining my critical objections to 'genre novels', but I very much do know what I'm talking about.

You're an illiterate unimaginative bender
And I very much do know what I'm talking about.
(, Fri 19 Oct 2012, 23:20, Reply)
Nope, nope and nope.
Sorry to be the bearer etc etc.
(, Fri 19 Oct 2012, 23:22, Reply)
If you want to believe you're literate
I won't argue. Despite your clear demonstration otherwise.
(, Sat 20 Oct 2012, 0:11, Reply)
I ain't been, but it sounds alright.
There is a game's workshop thats opened up up the road from me and I was thinking of going there and giving it a little play.
(, Fri 19 Oct 2012, 22:53, Reply)
I think you'd enjoy it Gonz
