I consider 'comic' to be when they are in installments, 'graphic novel' for when they are all in one compendium. But really, I don't give a fuck and like to call science fiction 'sci-fi' to annoy people

The clue is in the word "graphic", which you don't see associated with novels, unless they're graphic novels.
