I couldn't make sense of IDS on the radio this morning.
We don't want to hurt old people as they have no other choices about their income.
We want to encourage a culture of saving, so that in the future we won't be spending so much on pensions.
We going to hurt the working poor instead.
(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:20, 2 replies, latest was 12 years ago)
well old folk can't work to boost their income in anyway
the working poor can do a few more shift "down t' mine" to make ends meet.

simple

It worries me that most of the cabinet probably believe this.

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:27, Reply)
It worries me that this is a shit thread.

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:28, Reply)
This is always a worry.

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:29, Reply)
I can't wait for NA to be sacked.

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:28, Reply)
:(

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:30, Reply)
LOL

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:32, Reply)
I know it would be schadenfreude, but I'd lol.

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:30, Reply)
we should burn old people, to keep poor people warm

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:28, Reply)
FINALLY some sense in this thread.

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:32, Reply)
Don't you fall into both of those categories?

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:33, Reply)
we'll burn his legs to keep his torso warm

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:34, Reply)
I wouldn't be too smug, you're in the first tranch
or the "kindling" as their known
(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:33, Reply)
He's trying to explain something which is pretty horrible as if it's a good thing.
Which is bound to be confused.
(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:28, Reply)
How does he think people are going to save for the future if he cuts their income?

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:29, Reply)
He doesn't give a shit about poor peoples pensions. They're not a big problem.
it's the rich peoples pensions that are a problem.
(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:30, Reply)
I don't give a shit about them either.

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:32, Reply)
Anyone who can put £50,000 in a pension scheme a year gets £10,000 added to that.
Which is just about the cost of three skivers on the dole.
(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:35, Reply)
Actually that's wrong, assuming they are charged higher rate tax they get £20,000 a year.
which is 6 doleys
(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:36, Reply)
And as we all know, it's these 'skivers' who are causing all the problems, right?

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:37, Reply)
And Asians.

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:37, Reply)
Damn their smelly food!

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:39, Reply)
Cut any of that and you're killing poor old ladies who are living alone.

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:38, Reply)
Sounds good to me.

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:41, Reply)
this would also help free up housing, thus getting the housing market moving
without having to spend on housebuilding.
(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:47, Reply)
one of the best ideas I've seen out of local govenment is from Bradford.
Any house that hasn't been occupied for 2 years is going to be double council taxed from April. Make leaving a house empty costly.
(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:51, Reply)
seems a little unfiar

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 15:01, Reply)
How could that be unfair?

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 15:14, Reply)
Well council taxes are used to pay for local services, so if the house is empty the owner should really pay LESS tax, not more

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 15:28, Reply)
sounds like jealousy to me

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:37, Reply)
It's not jealousy, it's a massivley top heavy system that will bankrupt the country.

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:38, Reply)
And you should all be jelly of my pension, not the other way around.

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:41, Reply)
This is all your fault, with your public sector pension.
STOP BANKRUPTING US ALL CHOMPY!
(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:42, Reply)
it was always going to be horrible for someone, the hope is that by encouraging people to save for their retirement
then older peoples entitlements can be cut in the future
(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:30, Reply)
The same people then.

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:31, Reply)
but they'll feel better about themselves, as they'll be standing on their own two feet, not relaying on the system

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:32, Reply)
Explain how?

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:35, Reply)
instead of shuffling down to the post office to request their pitiful state pension, which is pretty embarrassing
they'll have their own hard earned pitiful pension to rely on.
(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:37, Reply)
Where will they have got the money from to fund this?
Given the real terms cut to their current income.
(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:38, Reply)
Extra hours obviously!

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:39, Reply)
I dunno, more hours, be less thick and get a better job
stop spending money on non essentials. that sort of thing
(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:45, Reply)
That's right EVERYONE should get a better job.

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:47, Reply)
then the immigants can fill the holes at the bottom
by jeeves we've got it
(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:48, Reply)
WHY has no one thought of this before?

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:48, Reply)
politicians are IDIOTS that's why
vote JESUS
(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:51, Reply)
But seriously, it's not my fault these people are thick or lazy or didn't work at school
why should I pay for their failures in life?
(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:48, Reply)
It really is that simple, eh?

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:52, Reply)
mostly.
Look, you can't help everyone all of the time. that's the problem with you people and politicians they can't make the difficult decisions.

Often it's cheaper to let a derelict house fall down, and rebuild, than it is to prop up the derelict house
(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 14:54, Reply)
Social responsibility is why.

(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 15:03, Reply)
yeah, but there have to be limits
you know, like when they design a bus and they have to only design the seats to fit people under 6'3". it'd be nice to be able to design seats for everyone to sit on, but it's just not feasible.
(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 15:04, Reply)
I think he has just said "Let them die", hasn't he?
Social responsibility seems to be somewhat lacking here.
(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 15:05, Reply)
*puts finger on nose, points*
I'm here to make the difficult decisions for you
(, Tue 8 Jan 2013, 15:34, Reply)
