Easygoing evening thread, everyone welcome.
I'll even take Dozer off ignore for the evening.

I'm watching the original Buffy movie. it's 90s-tastic. I remember when all this shit was current. what made you feel old today?

Alt:'member the 90s? share happy remenicences.
(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:26, 65 replies, latest was 13 years ago)
I fucking love the period 96 to 2001 for music.
1997 was especially good.

You alright Wilf? What's brought this on?
(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:27, Reply)
thought you'd like it.
not bad Doze, thanks, feeling very Positive.

the nostalgia, or the unignoring?
(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:28, Reply)
The unignoring.
You want me to bore you with a list of my favourite albums of that era?
(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:30, Reply)
meh, feeling chilled and happy, fairly sure even you can't dent that tonight.
not especially, doubt we agree on the majority. how about we pick a band we both like from the period and agree on how great they were and how shite they are now?
(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:33, Reply)
Alright.
Spiritualized?
Nine Inch Nails?
Primal Scream (though they are totes bipolar, no offence, occasional flashes of sheer brilliance, sometimes entire albums of duds)
Mogwai? Never recaptured the excellence of CODY.
(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:35, Reply)
of those, only NIN.
they were certainly excellent at channeling my belated teenage angst. I lost interest around the time Starfuckers came out. I might have to make up a play list of the 5 or 6 songs of theirs that don't take me right back to The Bad Times.
(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:39, Reply)
The Downward Spiral still sounds pretty good.
Which is pretty surprising, considering how quickly electronic music dates. I gave Homework and Timeless a listen a few months back; Homework still sounds impeccable but there are a few tracks on Timeless that haven't aged at all well.

I remember being hugely excited about The Fragile, going off to Cardiff to buy it, getting it home, playing it and being fucking furious that Trent Reznor had taken five years to make such a crock of shit album.

True story yo xx
(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:42, Reply)
yeah, The Fragile was so underwhelming I didn't listen to anything after that.

(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:47, Reply)

(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:51, Reply)
there's a book?
Other than Emma, I mean
(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:52, Reply)
Not my kind of film, soz.
And I can't stand most pre-modernist literature. I studied Dickens and it was the most boring shit imaginable. In a bad way.

The late 90's saw the emerging of some epic trance
Got me into clubbing and eventually DJing which kept my bread buttered for a good few years.
(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:44, Reply)
Oh man, trance is shit and always was.
When you were poncing about to PVD it was all Dave Clarke, K&D, Goldie, Grooverider, Plastikman and Peshay round my way.

My golden rule with club music is that if it sounds shit when on pills then it's irredeemable. I tried trance on mitsubishis and lasted about two minutes before I had to take refuge in music which was tougher and funkier.
(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:47, Reply)
To each, his own
Im quite eclectic but I love a nice bit of floaty vocal trance.

More into House these days, most sub genres.

used to be into Hard House and Gabba back in the day.
So... I've crossed most spectrums.

Hate Rap, Jungle ad Drum & Bass
(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:49, Reply)
Oh man
You hate hip hop, jungle and DnB? But you like 'floaty vocal trance'?

You really are extremely gay.
(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:50, Reply)

I thought this was known..? ;)

I reckon it's all about the area you live in too.
Manchester plays far different music to clubs in Newcastle
(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:51, Reply)
It is indeed known.
I live near Leeds, which is the best club scene outside London. Pisses all over Manchester.
(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:52, Reply)

Im cracking on a bit now anyways. Much rather sit in a pub than grumble about drunk student pricks who can't handle their drugs.

Back to Ibiza next year though. Love that place
(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:55, Reply)
Ibiza's improved hugely with the club lineups.

(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:56, Reply)
Have you met Dozer?
I think he'd be perfect for you.

edit: show's what I know. maybe a hatefuck?
(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:47, Reply)
Nah, I can't stand trance.
As a wise man once said, it's music for plebs and nonces.
(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:48, Reply)
well, I agree, of course.

(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:49, Reply)
Trance is 'fucking shit'.

(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:49, Reply)
Nah, anyone into trance gets short shrift from me.

(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:49, Reply)
I was well in to my psytrance for a while. :(

(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:52, Reply)
You fucking hippy prick.

(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:53, Reply)
in my defence I spent most of that year completely out of my skull on as many drugs as we could get our hands on.

(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:54, Reply)
That's no excuse.

(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:57, Reply)
it's amazing what you think is incredible on mushrooms.

(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 20:04, Reply)
Last time I did mushrooms we listened to the Richard D James Album by aphex twin.
Give it a go!
(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 20:05, Reply)
Gong 'Live Etc' + mushrooms = whoah dude
I made an ex cry on Thai mushrooms by playing Valium 10 by Hawkwind at top vol, she could see the bones in her hand through her skin, good times LOL
(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 20:21, Reply)
alright CQ,
All good, hangover subsiding, pub all but empty, chilled one tonight, then I'm doing a line clean, so shit faced again tonight and up real late. Still, day off tomorrow, so I can chill.
What's put you in such a good mood?

how go the laptop woes?
(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:53, Reply)
one of them is fixed, apart from the fan that sounds like a geiger counter, ticking away.
The other is just an empty shell, awaiting some sort of windows install.
(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:55, Reply)
okey dokey
let me know if I can offer any advice.
(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 19:57, Reply)
I think I'm alright for the minute, trying to decide if I tackle the dodgy fan,
Or just leave it out of fear of making it worse.
(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 20:02, Reply)
I'm not dodgy, I just want an autograph ok

(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 20:22, Reply)

(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 20:24, Reply)
that is an excellent film, speaking as an expert.

(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 20:25, Reply)
I'm not sure of a 'line clean' followed by getting shit faced.... being a drug reference.

(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 20:02, Reply)
nah, we clean the beer pipes, and about 3 to 4 pints is already in the lines
So there's a Fuck ton of free beer. I've got 2 bars so it works out at around 45 odd pints.
(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 20:03, Reply)
Ahhh, cool.
What do you do in those cases? Do you ever sort them out to the punters? Even if you had half a dozen staff on shift it'd be a bit of a push.
(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 20:05, Reply)
nah, don't trust punters,
But usually get a few mates in, or managers from nearby pubs.

Oh how I wish it were from the loldrugz

(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 20:30, Reply)
By 92 rave had gone shit,
rather than face up to this I smashed the LOL out of it and went back to the hip hop wot animated my middle class prick breakdancing ass in '84. Whilst still bashing the loldrugs. This led to a very confusing time where I'd go to hip hop shows on MDMA. I don't recommend it.
(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 20:34, Reply)
Hip hop on pills is shit.

(, Wed 27 Feb 2013, 20:35, Reply)
I saw Mobb Deep at the Clapham Grand
after a day on MDMA blotters and Hugh Rowlands' bugle and it was horrendous. I also accidentally went to Westwood's Xmas 'people on release from nick' jam sniffed beyond belief, my pal was robbed in the queue, they closed Piccadilly with police barriers before the club opened and a helicopter landed in the street, so we escaped and went home. Then listened to the show on the radio, it sounded great and was clearly not cancelled at all. Gutted. I think Keith Murray MC'd.
