Unite that is, none of those al-based japeries.

You could invite Citadel and The Resident Loon. By British standards they're a long way away but not on the US scale of things.

@PoD - I know what you mean, but I'm looking forward to seeing all you real people. Assuming they are real of course, and not just figments of my imagination. Or Turing machines.
(, Fri 4 Jul 2008, 22:09, Reply)

No, Dundee area
So it's not far to Edinburgh.

A lot of the Scots based b3tards won't know anyone though. TWW, HLT etc, so we'll be in the same boat.

I'm off for a while. My sister's just turned up as she's been at a do in the area, so I'm going to talk to a real person for a change!

And drink wine.

Later, y'all.

Evening Maladicta
Have been at home trying to fix my laptop for a couple of hours and on and off the board when the damn thing has let me.

Am having a cheeky half day off work (what with it being a holiday here) and am now drinking some ver' nice wine (at 4.30pm, erk) and trying not to freak out about the fact that I go back to the UK in 3 weeks...

EDIT: I already said the 3 weeks thing. Damn this wine. Sorry

*accepts the beer*
Cheers!

Are you looking forward to coming back though?
(, Fri 4 Jul 2008, 22:37, Reply)
PoD
I am looking forward to in as there's a lot of people I've missed. But work wise (which is why i came here) this was the best year I've had. Never mind the 70 hour weeks or the psychotic russian boss, I've had the chance to work with some fab people and do stuff I never could have done in the UK.

I'm seriously contemplating coming back here if things don't work out, but if not, then I can learn a hell of a lot from my time here.

And I can highly recommend Chicago as a holiday destination. Very, very nice...
(, Fri 4 Jul 2008, 22:40, Reply)
Is Chicago where you ended up?
I went there in November but didn't like it much. New Orleans is a lot better at that time of the year.
(, Fri 4 Jul 2008, 22:43, Reply)
I've never been to new orleans
but I think maybe chicago grows on you. Compared to London I found it to be so much friendlier. That said, it took me a while to get used to it. I was in New York at the weekend and I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought, as I found it much more hectic and noisy. Chicago is pretty laid back (which i like, not everyone does) and feels more like a small town to me.

That said, i still think San Francisco takes a lot of beating. :)
(, Fri 4 Jul 2008, 22:46, Reply)
I was only in Chicago one night so it didn't grow on me
I once spent two months travelling round the States by train. Going on a long-distance train-journey over there is one of America's hidden secrets.

New York and London are alomost identical. Liked San Francisco though. Whatever you do, avoid Florida, especially Miami.
(, Fri 4 Jul 2008, 22:50, Reply)
Can't say I have any plans to visit the US
But then again, I've never been beyond France, so you never know what the future may hold.

That sentence doesn't really make sense. Oh well.

My PC appears to have superheated my room. I think I may melt.
(, Fri 4 Jul 2008, 23:01, Reply)
you can
get the california zephyr train from chicago to SF. apparently one of the best ways of seeing the states.

incidentally if anyone does fancy Chicago as a holiday destination, october is by far the best month. The summer is stupidly hot, and from the end of novemvber till march is unbearably cold. october is perfect.

bloody hell, i've drunk a bottle of wine.

*gets wobbly*
(, Fri 4 Jul 2008, 23:12, Reply)
@POD
At least your PC isn't melting itself.

This week, I had to open mine up and clean out all the dust because it was restricting the airflow.

Don't you go falling over now, madame
And I would hope it wasn't full of dust, as I only got it on Monday. Switched back to laptop power now.

I can't be bothered going to get anything to drink :(
(, Fri 4 Jul 2008, 23:14, Reply)
* stabilises Rakky by wobbling her in such a way to cancel out the existing wobbles *
I was in Chicago in November so I picked bad time.

I've been on several Amtrak routes, but not the 'California Zephyr'. Is that how you got to SF?

The 'City of New Orleans' (Chicago to New Orleans) was my favourite. There was even a party in the observation lounge. That train is legendary for being fun.
(, Fri 4 Jul 2008, 23:16, Reply)
PoD
have you no beer in? schoolboy error there. I stocked up in a slightly worrying alcoholic way. even though the *ahem* liquor store is open till ten.

mind you, after dark the south side becomes less than safe to wander round, so going out after dark is never a good idea...

*contemplates take away pizza*

I've never done the Zephyr route, but in a romantic way in my head have always fancied it.

Aye
not to bad.

Was almost dragged to Jamie Bastard Olivers new restaurant for lunch today, but luckily it was monopolised by American tourists so I didn't have to pay him money for overpriced crap.

A minor victory, but still...
(, Fri 4 Jul 2008, 23:24, Reply)
A victory none the less through, zap
There is probably much alcohol downstairs, as I am at my parents house. Maybe even some whisky. Mmmm.

But I can't be bothered to go and get anything. That would require moving.

@Rakky
I once went on a four-day trainjourney - Moscow to Irkutsk.

American trains are a world apart from British trains. You very easily get talking to people. I'm even thinking of visiting the States just so I can go on the California Zephyr (but this isn't likely to happen for at least another year).

@Zapiola
Why did you let yourself be dragged there?
(, Fri 4 Jul 2008, 23:31, Reply)
Bizarrely
I am stone cold sober.

I am unsure whether or not to rectify this situation.

EDIT @MrSpak, twas somebodies last day at work and they wanted a 'fancy' lunch. So Tongueboys restaurant it was... until we discovered there was a 40 minute wait to get in. Then we went to Pizza Express. All the damned tourists are going there too.
(, Fri 4 Jul 2008, 23:32, Reply)
PoD
well I'm going to the fridge to get a beer. I'd get you one, but frankly...

Mmm, pies. I had to explain the concept of savoury pies (and yorkshire puddings) to a group of americans yesterday. They were VERY receptive...
(, Fri 4 Jul 2008, 23:33, Reply)
Well
A good meal should include pie in at least two courses. Possibly three or four courses.

Do you not want to get me a beer because you want it all, or because of the obvious difficulties in getting it to me?
(, Fri 4 Jul 2008, 23:35, Reply)
Well, I am selfish
but more the idea of sending a beer over the ether.

I would happily share my beer with b3tards. :)

I watched Dirty Pretty Things and The National - both good. Then out of sheer, morbid curiosity, I watched Siouxsie Sioux. Odd dancing and some intriguing high kicks (her, not me) but watchable. Then we watched Morrissey - I liked The Smiths but I didn't have high hopes - but he was really good! And chirpy (for Morrissey).

Ethanol (14.5%) in aqueous solution, containing tasty impurities from the Petit Verdot grape, cultivated in South Australia, in 2006.

And very nice it was too. So nice that my backspace key is going to be worn out soon from overuse.

@clendrix - you could, I imagine, buy nipple-shaped wine gums. Maybe.

in an awkward way...

hello!
this is one of the rare occasions that I#m not at work and thus can actually join in one of the uberthreads..

*a;so apologises to K2K6 for calling him cold and unfeeling*

EDIT: spakka, i worry about getting shot on a regular basis. I think it's unfounded..

You called k2k6 a fish?
(, Sat 5 Jul 2008, 0:52, Reply)
Am I in the right plaice?
Or am I herring things?

I thought I was the life and sole of the party...

*gives up on abysmal fish-related puns*

@Rakky - apology accepted.

I'm quite feeling actually.

*feels Rakky*

See?

@al
Actually, it was K2k6 who suggested that life-sized gingerbread women could have jelly tot nipples and I protested they would be far too small.

Sadly my nipples are not made of confectionery, so there will be no photographic displays of wine gum boob decoration.
(, Sat 5 Jul 2008, 0:54, Reply)
@clendrix
You can always chew and nibble the wine-gums until they're in the desired shape.
(, Sat 5 Jul 2008, 0:54, Reply)
al
it wasn't that kind of snog, honest mrs al...

*worries*

I certainly didnt mean to imply any kind of fishiness about K2K6. That came out wrong... someone help me?

:)

K2K6, if it's fish puns you want, I guess we could say this is just salmon'chanted evening...

@Al thank jebus I didn't have that brandy.
*ponders*
We need to have bashes more often, they are very much fun even though they make me admit to things I really shouldn't.
(, Sat 5 Jul 2008, 0:56, Reply)
@wanderlust
If we're having bashes more often, we might as well have a mass b3ta wedding.
(, Sat 5 Jul 2008, 0:57, Reply)

what did you admit to?

*stirs*

EDIT: obviously in a gaz. i won't share it. i'm just nosy... :)

I have enough weirdery in my life without chewing wine gums into nipple shaped lumps.

My poor flatmate will have a breakdown.

The brandy would have made me ill...Remember I'm being a TV star tomorrow. I need to save all of my drunken shenangians for then!

@Rakky, I admitted to being a bit of a naughty girl.

@spakka lets all get married!! I'd rather marry someone from b3ta than someone boring. Boring people are, well...boring!!
(, Sat 5 Jul 2008, 1:03, Reply)
Please stop k2
Please, please, please. I get enough crap jokes and puns from my band. Spending a whole week with them almost drove me more insane.

fairy nuff.

*waits for next bash*

actually, to be fair, most awful stuff I've done has been made in to a QOTW story anyway. Let's face it, the next bash i go to, everyone knows I offered a gay man a blow job, loudly, in public, how much worse does it get?

*still sympathises with wanderlust*
(, Sat 5 Jul 2008, 1:06, Reply)
Sorry PoD
But I've never done puns on this scale before. It's a real ray of sunshine in my life.

*changes subject in lieu of more fishy puns*

So, if we're all going to get married, how will we pair off?

@Rakky
Thank you, you lovely.

I'm sure I'll tell all in a QOTW at some point haha.

But now it is time for me to go to bed.

Good night everyone and sweet dreams :)

@Rakky: That's the great thing about QOTW. We all know eachother's darkest and most embarassing secrets. It's sort of like a reverse Internet dating agency.

@K2k6: One thought I had about QOTW'ers pairing off is that everyone comes up with a list of who they think should pair off with who not including themselves. We all compare lists and see who all the must-copulate couples are.

EDIT: G'night wanderlust & al
(, Sat 5 Jul 2008, 1:14, Reply)
G'night Ms Lust
And goodnight all - I'm off to bed too.
(, Sat 5 Jul 2008, 1:14, Reply)
I was thinking
I should go to bed too.

Then I realised I was already there, with my laptop propped up in front of me. But I should really have some kip soon.

Maybe not yet though.
(, Sat 5 Jul 2008, 1:15, Reply)
A problem though with this idea
Is that as far as I am aware, there are few young female QOTWers. I may be wrong on that one though.
(, Sat 5 Jul 2008, 1:15, Reply)
G'night clendrix

(, Sat 5 Jul 2008, 1:16, Reply)
@PoD
That all depends on your point of view. Apart from BGB, they're nearly all younger than me.

*scans QOTW-land lustfully*
(, Sat 5 Jul 2008, 1:17, Reply)
@spakka
i like your reverse dating agency thing. godamn it, that might actually work...

did that sound too desperate?

DRUNKEDIT: PoD, depends on your definition of young...
(, Sat 5 Jul 2008, 1:17, Reply)
Just a little bit, Rakky
And I'm at t'other end of scale from you, k2.

'Mon the young ones!

edit - That depends on your definition of your age, rakky.
(, Sat 5 Jul 2008, 1:20, Reply)
.
@POD: Don't be afraid to try an older woman.

@rakky: We should have a motto: QOTW - we're at our best when we're at our worst. Doesn't sound too desperate to me.
(, Sat 5 Jul 2008, 1:23, Reply)
I've been making a list
of 'must copulate' couples.

But they all are of the form "K2k6 and [lovely female b3tard]".

Is that allowed?
(, Sat 5 Jul 2008, 1:23, Reply)
*contemplates making age joke*
but it's not worth it.

Like it or lump it, I'm 33. that;s not old though. honest guv...
(, Sat 5 Jul 2008, 1:25, Reply)
@spakka
I want that on a tshirt...

:)
(, Sat 5 Jul 2008, 1:26, Reply)
@K2k6
It's allowed, but you'd probably be best to keep it to yourself.
(, Sat 5 Jul 2008, 1:26, Reply)
Indeed, it is not old
But just a fair amount older than my fair self.
(, Sat 5 Jul 2008, 1:26, Reply)
No, 33's not old
I'm a bit older than that. Life has not yet begun though.

I think I'll keep my list unpublished. But you can probably imagine it, as there's about a dozen QOTW regulars on it.

(All but a handful are taken though. And the others would probably tell me to GTF, so it's not really relevant!)
(, Sat 5 Jul 2008, 1:29, Reply)
You love it
Don't pretend you don't like getting your ankles bitten. I've seen you and Burt in the cave.

And I'm quite happy to be young.

I just searched my username in google, and apparently there are lots of other penguinofdeath's. Damn imposters.

There are also many Rakky's, but most are a guy called Steve Racks. He got in the way of my stalking...

There's only one mistaspakkaman, yet funnily enough, in Google, my topmost entry is on the b3ta bunker rather than b3ta itself.

EDIT: My god! We're losing them like flies. G'night rakky.

Night k2k6, Miss Rakky
Have the good weekends. Or at least the bit until we all reappear on here.

EDITED!!!!!!

Do you lose flys a lot?

k2k6 is the airport code for some random airport in the middle of nowhere in Americaland.

I don't lose flies
I leave them open. That's because I have loose flies.
(, Sat 5 Jul 2008, 1:43, Reply)

I think it's just you and me now. And I think I should go to sleep.

So goodnight, both to you, spakka, and any other lost souls that may stumble across this place tonight. Make sure to lock up on the way out :)

madam marlboro and wanderlust, it was especially nice getting to speak to you as I didn't get a chance to last time. Wanderlust, secret's safe with me lovey.

Yay for opera mini!!
I found a strepsil, so I'm here at least until it's done.

Did you know wanderlust is a condition type thing that means you have a desire to go travelling?

No? You didn't care either? Oh well.

When I type "forgot her password" into google
the first thing I get is Rakky's profile-page.

Ah well, I mean, the username did come about as i genuinely forgot my passwomd and the email address I used to register was dead..

fucking hell, that was dull

*aaaaaaaaanyway*

so anything posted as rakky, still me...
(, Sat 5 Jul 2008, 2:00, Reply)
Got to love google
And my strepsil is now finished, so now I shall disappear.

The stopping of typing does not mean I've gone and died somewhere, so don't worry. Or not too much anyway.
