I'm a little disappointed, if I'm honest.
Ball bearings and gunpowder doesn't seem classy enough for Al Qaeda. I've always thought of them as the flamboyant drama queens of the bombing world. This had the hallmarks of the cheap, but functional, IRA-style-nail-bomb-in-a-bin Western brand of terrorism.

I particularly enjoyed them mortaring Heathrow out the back of a van.
Makes a big noise, looks dead scary, but causes the minimum of potential casualties on account of lobbing them onto massive fucking stretches of tarmac.

Created a nice bit of work for their cousins, too. Somebody's got to resurface the runways, right?
