Have a long list
of all the girls names you like and then wait until you see her before you decide...
It's no good if you've set your heart on Jessica (for example) and when she appears it's quite clear she's a Harriet.
Personally I like names that mean something or just sound funky...
Matilda is a good one, I rather like Freya too.
I'd avoid Emily, Charlotte, Sophie, Jessica and all those which have been really popular - not because they're not nice names, but because the chances are that she'll end up becoming known by her surname as there'll be so many of them in class when she goes to school.

Eleni is current front-runner
This works on both sides of the family. I have a Helen, an Eleanor and an Ellen in my lot - and the other side are Greeks (as is the name Eleni). Other than that I haven't the foggiest and have but seven of your earth days left....

Also make sure
she doesn't have initials that spell something out .... especially something naughty. I was at school with one William Alan Neil Kerr. His parents claimed not to have realised .....
My friend's little niece has just been named Thea - I do like that!

Spooky...
But last night I dreamt about a friend of mine who is pregnant...
I dreamt that she had a baby girl and she was called Harvey.
I don't think that's a good name for a girl.

funny how people you know affect your opinion of a name. i know hundreds of lovely kates, for instance, but it's the fat sweaty "fish patty pants" and vanilla scented retard from school that sticks out for me.
also, best have some boys' names just in case. my cousin philip has been known as victoria ever since he turned out to be a girl on the day...
yay baby!!

If I ever had a daughter
I'd call her Mina.
But I don't plan on having kids.

My friend's little girl is called
Evie.
Matilda's nice too - can be shortened to Tilly.

Now don't think I'm biased or anything...
But I think 'Pooflake'is a good name.
After all, My cat is called Pooflake and it's great!
Once she gets over the initial "So it's not Poof-Lake" shenannigans, she'll be right as rain

You think that'll ever end?
Just hyphenate your username, and be done with it.

For no other reason than it makes you mouth feel nice wen you say it.
Also, stick with the same rule I go for with pets. It shouldn't be something you're embarassed to shout out the back door...
*Edit - I like Clendrix's one too*

I like the idea of numbers
as names for children
Six or Seven particularly (for a girl)
although if you call her Seven people might think it is a tribute to Seven of Nine from Star Trek
and Six was in Blossom
still good names though!
