I don't think they will.

Nah it'll be fine.
It's kind of a don't ask don't tell deal. If they find it by accident they'll just tap their nose at you and turn a blind eye. It's only if you go around shouting about it that they're forced to make an example.

it's a Hawkwind album not child porn

Wait... what?
I think I've downloaded the wrong thing.
Shit!
(, Mon 17 Jun 2013, 12:18, Reply)
Haha yeah, that's fine.
Nobody really gives a shit about licencing, anyway.
(, Mon 17 Jun 2013, 12:19, Reply)
they really don't.

Downloading torrenting software onto corporate machines
is actually implicitly encouraged.
(, Mon 17 Jun 2013, 12:22, Reply)
small businesses don't have the time or inclination to give a shit.
I can guarantee this from personal experience
(, Mon 17 Jun 2013, 12:25, Reply)
Unlicenced and pirated software is absolutely fine.
I don't know why you think I'm suggesting otherwise.
(, Mon 17 Jun 2013, 12:28, Reply)
I don't think I have downloaded any software.
Edit: I mean apart from the thing that Windows said would help me.
And Bill Gates said that, so it must be fine.

If you got it off a torrent site
you'll have needed a client to download it the torrent. If your company has any kind of security at all, then it'll be setting alarms off.

If not, then your IT department's not worthy of the name.

We don't have an IT department.
We have to adhere to strict hygiene guidelines here.

The primary reason why our knickers get in a twist, by the way
is that these things often carry malicious software that can fly around an internal network like wildfire.

I bet you wouldn't snort some drugs you found on a bog floor in a pub either.

(, Mon 17 Jun 2013, 12:34, Reply)
You'd have to be some sort of demented loon to do that sort of thing

(, Mon 17 Jun 2013, 12:39, Reply)
On a serious note
if there isn't actually a decent bit of DRM to stop you installing multiple copies of a program on different computers, is there realistically anything a large corporation can do to find out if you are using it's software in accordance with the licence? We're talking very small business use here?
(, Mon 17 Jun 2013, 12:31, Reply)
It's difficult to say.
I know my company's been threatened with legal action by various software companies in the past. As for small business, I couldn't tell you, I have no experience of it. I can tell you that the threat of malware alone should be enough for IT to do something about it.
