Jings!
Now THAT'S a spicy meat-a-ball!
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 14:40, 1 reply, 12 years ago)
anyway,
highlights of the weekend were Airbourne, who are jsut AC/DC but younger. right down to the marshall stacks on stage, Satyricon, who fucking blew me away, Queens of the Stone Age were really on form, Alice in Chains were fantastic, and a new band called Krokodil who don't even seem to have anything on youtube, let alone a record.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 14:55, Reply)
Cool
I wish I'd gone to a couple of festivals when I was younger. I'm sure I'd still dig it now, but I'm slightly less comfortable sleeping in mud than I used to be.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 14:58, Reply)
I always ensure I have a blow up air bed and lots of blankets.

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 14:59, Reply)
Yeah
Maybe I'll do it one day.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:01, Reply)
it wasn't too bad really,
we had a decent air bed and quilted double sleeping bag, and apart from a bit of mud on day one, wellies kept us pretty safe from it all.
It depends where you camp i reckon. In the campsites close to the action shit gets raucous, but we were down in one of the further back ones and it was pretty sedate. met some nice folks, smoked a metric fuck ton of weed with strangers, got a bit pissed.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:13, Reply)
I'm taking the kids to one down the road from you in August.
I'll be honest I'm dreading it.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:00, Reply)
Where's that?

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:01, Reply)
Camp Bestival - middle aged caners with kids :(

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:02, Reply)
Hey, that IS near me.
You need to cross water to get there, but still! That is the one on the island, right?
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:04, Reply)
Nearly - this is the little brother of the one over the sea.
It's in Dorset, but google maps said I had to go near your house to get there from here.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:06, Reply)
Aha
Yeah, Dorset's further away than IOW. Still, I'll keep an eye out for you. We notice when new people pass through the town, you see.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:08, Reply)
I've just looked again and we don't really go anywhere near you.
Still, might be worth making a detour if there's any of that chilli sauce left.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:13, Reply)
It's gonna be shit
I will never take my kid to a festival. They can go on their own when they're old enough.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:01, Reply)
I agree.

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:03, Reply)
Seriously, I know what I got up to at festivals, and I know what I saw other people doing
I don't want to be seeing my offspring doing that. What I don't know can't hurt me.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:05, Reply)
This is even worse - a 'family friendly' festival.
There's only realty two bands I want to see, I will probably spend the rest of the time arsing about with the kids.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:09, Reply)
there were a lot of children at Download,
the amount of breasts on the big screen was bad enough for the younger ones, let alone all the drugged up crazies and other goings on. There was a kid no older than about 12 down the front for Down that i thought was gonna get killed when the mosh pit kicked in
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:11, Reply)
I fucking hate the site layout at Download so much.
it really is shit.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:13, Reply)
Very much this
Even with the cracking lineup this year, I was never considering it, due to how shit the layout is.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:17, Reply)
It's also the getting parked and getting out again
they never even try and make the car parks accessible despite knowing it's going to get muddy.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:19, Reply)
took us 2 and a half hours to get out of the car park.
but that was mostly because it wasn't marshalled properly in any sort of fashion.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:21, Reply)
yeah, the walk from the campsites up to the venue was a fuck of a long way.
last time we were in the disabled site, which means we had a bus up, and year before we got a good spot in black camp, so it wasn't too far, but outside of black or top of Gold, it's a hell of a trek.
30 min walk this year from our tent to the venue.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:17, Reply)
It's fucking ridiculous, isn't it?

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:18, Reply)
it's a bit daft,
but i guess if you've got a huge race track in the middle there is little you can do.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:21, Reply)
When I first went it was held within the racetrack
it was really good.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:27, Reply)
What's wrong with breasts?

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:13, Reply)
Some of the breasts you see are quite revolting.

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:15, Reply)
I happen to appreciate your mother's breasts, Al.

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:17, Reply)
I'll be sure to let her know.

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:19, Reply)
She knows.

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:23, Reply)
nothing, but i'm not sure you should be exposing children to that sort of behaviour young.
We all know the tits out on the big screen is all a bit of a laugh, and i imagine most of the girls do too, but there are those who feel women HAVE to get their breasts out, and exposing children to it that young is adding to modern rape culture in young men, or something. My feminist friend got very angry about it. I just like to look at boobs, is that a crime?
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:19, Reply)
As long as it goes no further than looking, no.
My youngest gets exposed to breasts several times a day.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:23, Reply)
really?
Edit: Breastfeeding or you really are on some sort of commune.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:24, Reply)
There's a weird dynamic in our culture where apparently it's ok for small children to wath
the power rangers or whatever knocking lumps off stuff, but boobs are verboten. Especially since kids spend the first few months of their lives sucking the damn things.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:26, Reply)
Not only that, we like to see breasts just about everywhere, apart from being functional and feeding a child.
Then the hippy bitch should have the decency to go and hide in the bogs or summat.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:28, Reply)
Breastfeeding you big silly.

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:26, Reply)
To be fair mate
you should be on solids by now
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:50, Reply)
Airbourne are fucking mental live
Satyricon are astonishing, caught them at Download 2006, was in shock at how good they were. Trying to work out if I've seen them again since.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:16, Reply)
Satyricon were incredible,
the crowd were fairly small as they clashed with the first half of Rammsteins set, but they blew me away. They said that they have just finished a new record, and are touring end of this year.
I am getting tickets as soon as they come up.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:23, Reply)
Just messaged my friend to enquire whether I have seen them since
Either way, if they come near me, think I'll be getting tickets for that.

The other gig I'm off to later this year is 30 Seconds to Mars.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:28, Reply)
HAHA you massive gayer.

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:29, Reply)
Tbh, it's even worse than that
I'm mainly there for the support.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:31, Reply)
i didn't see 30 seconds to mars, in fact, I'm not sure I've heard any of their music.
Alice in Chains are touring, go and see them, even the new stuff is good.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:34, Reply)
I'm not sure I want to cash in a night out card to go an see them again
though I did really enjoy them when I saw them a few years back at teh Forum.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:35, Reply)
Don't really know any Alice In Chains
I'm not a big fan of 30STM, but I hear they're excellent live, as I know the support are, so going to see them on the strength of their performances, over the 'strength' of their music.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:35, Reply)
who are the support?

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:36, Reply)
...You Me At Six

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:37, Reply)
When did metal get so bent?

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:37, Reply)
I mean, it was always camp, but...

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:38, Reply)
THere is a difference between "camp" and "fucking tragic emo wank"

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:38, Reply)
I'm going to see some proper noise next month:
www.factmag.com/2013/05/30/nazoranai-stephen-omalley-keiji-haino-and-oren-ambarchi-and-nicholas-bullen-to-descend-on-birmingham/
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:41, Reply)
See, I don't get that shit either.
There isn't anything even musically interesting about that, it could literally be performed by three people who had never seen their instruments before.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:44, Reply)
Lazy argument, Al.
But I admit it's not for everyone.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:46, Reply)
Yet when I say that about bands like Cannibal Corpse, people say I'm an idiot.
Then again, they also say that when I'm not even talking.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:47, Reply)
You're an idiot.

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:49, Reply)
It's not lazy, if you're billing yourself as "noise supremos"
then it would help if a) your music was actually noisy, and that wasn't and b) if something interesting happened, even once.

I can't really get into Meshuggah, but they are both noisy and musically very talented.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:52, Reply)
Same with me, my friends are crazy about them, I just don't get it.
Same with Opeth
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:52, Reply)
It's likely to be uncomfortably noisy live.
I have an Oren Ambarchi album which, on first listen, I thought nothing happens on it.
Further listens have proven it to be brilliant.*

*If you like that sort of thing.*

**Which I do.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:55, Reply)
These are closer to pop punk than anything
Friend of mine loves them, dragged me to see them at Sonisphere, where they were superb. Have seen them since, it wasn't a one off performance, they actually are pretty damn good.
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:39, Reply)
No I'm sorry, this is the most tragically fucking shit emo wank I've ever seen
www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLqHDhF-O28

You really shouldn't support this kind of behaviour.

No, that video doesn't cut to a 12 year old girl in eyeliner saying "I wish there was ... no such thing as fighting"

(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:43, Reply)
I hadn't actually watched that video, I'll be honest
I was reminded yesterday that HIM actually exist, something I'd quite happily forgotten for several years.

Here's another spectacularly emo video
(, Tue 18 Jun 2013, 15:44, Reply)
I quite like "Love Metal"
though I know I shouldn't.
