As long as the write-off leaves it safe to drive
it makes no odds. you have to declare it to the insurance company. I assume it's a Cat D (as in uneconomical to repair rather than being "proper fucked") so you simply have to tell your insurance company, plus if you ever sell it you have to declare it.

I had a mini about 18 years ago that I tried to do that with but the company got very, very shirty about it. So if they are offering and you don't want a new car but do want some money, go for it.

Awesome.
It's only about halfway through its normal lifespan, as a diesel, so I don't really want to get rid of it. Also, I couldn't afford to replace it with anything near as good at the moment.
