morning morning
I'm feeling a bit bleurgh today, as last night was the work summer party. However, I discovered the most amazing hangover food this morning: a bottle of ginger beer, and a sweet-chilli and chicken wrap from boots. I have perked up 110% in the last 30 minutes.

What foodstuffs cure your hangovers?

Orange Lucozade first
followed by a tuna and sweetcorn sandwich with brown bread

not sure why, but this is often the only thing my stomach will accept.

drink more drink or take stronger drugs
or pass out long enough to wake up cured by nature , not very good advice for a Tuesday in the office though , but then again it was an office night out

If happyjoys cure doesn't work
Then a guaranteed is Flaming Hot Monster Munch and a carton of Ribena, preferably Strawberry. If you still feel a bit dodgy, then have a mint Aero. They actually have magical properties that make hangovers go away.

I have in the past chosen sushi as my hangover cure of choice.
However, it has to be good fresh sushi, not the crappy Boots stuff.

Ginger beer is the best thing ever though. Not too sweet, but still fizzy and tangy.

PJM's guaranteed hangover cures
I've tried a few over the years, some of them icky and some of them not. Here's how I got on:

1) Maccy D's Choc milkshake

It's got chocolate and the coldness soothes sore heads. However, you may have ethical issues with McDs and the noise of screeching kids don't help much either.

2) Bananas

They work surprisingly well, but the energy boost they give is somewhat short lived.

3) Lemonade and salt

This works. Take a glass of lemonade and add two teaspoons of salt. The end result is flat lemonade, with the salty tang quite successfully disguised. Some folk just can't face it though.

4) Hair of the dog

Works for a while, but you're guaranteed to feel shit later.

Tried and tested...
PJM has one thing very right... Bananas.

Don't leave it until the following morning when the hangover has already kicked in. It's not always easy to remember, but a couple of pints of water and a banana or two before you pass out always helps keep the pain at bay.

However, should you still feel the angry hangover monster bouncing about your body the next morning, I find scrambled eggs on toast usually helps.

Ooh, and some codeine to dull the aching head and give you that light floaty feeling is always a winner.

I've heard bananas are good.
However, I just don't like them that much. If there's even a hint that they're slightly squashed, it makes me gag. I can't stand the texture of squashed bananas.

I always have to have something savoury for a hangover, I find.

I could murder a cornish pasty right about now.

I agree with savoury for hangovers. you need something with substance that the stomach can grab hold of.

living in Devon and spending a lot of time in Cornwall as I do you get to be a connoisseur of pasties, and my advice is this: if a pasty shop outside Cornwall says it is award winning then its pasties are probably pretty average.

The best pasty I've had in a while has been from the roast chicken etc. counter of my local sainsburys. their pasties are made by a local butcher and are unbelievably delicious.

I find a cheeseburger does the trick...
That, or a Lucozade and a Mars Bar.

But I am making notes of these other suggestions too! :)

well
strangly as I get older my hangovers are getting better, either that or I know to tell anyone who suggests 3 pitchers of vodka and redbull with double aftershock chasers to go fuck themselves but anyway, I digress

A full english with two pints of guinness.

it is a kill or cure, but feeling slightly pissed at 9am is better than feeling half dead.

edit: Irn Bru and (not on!) toast is always a good one as well

Ginger beer
and Fried egg sandwich, always works for me!

Bacon toasties with brown sauce
and if you can stomach it, "a pint of plain" (Guinness), as Brendan Behan said, "is yer only man".

I've heard it said, the anatomical similarities to the pig explains the effectiveness of bacon's rejuvenating qualitites on a worn down bod.
(, Tue 5 Aug 2008, 13:17, Reply)
Beans on toast.
and a big cup of tea.

Although at my age now, I try to steer away from hangovers.
(, Tue 5 Aug 2008, 13:44, Reply)
Hot sweet tea
and a soft bacon roll with ketchup. And coke, it further help is needed, Irn Bru for the terminal cases.
(, Tue 5 Aug 2008, 15:24, Reply)
Alka Seltzer
And a vitamin C tablet, in the same glass (but don't fill the glass too far 'cause it fizzes like fuck).

And if that doesn't do the job, a bacon and sausage butty from the greasy van outside B&Q usually seals it for me.
(, Tue 5 Aug 2008, 16:28, Reply)
Pint of water
Can of Relentless energy drink.
4 misc painkillers.
2 large tomatoes.

OR

A very strong Bloody Mary.
