Quick technical Question
Ok, don't laugh. This is probably really obvious to everyone bar me. Is there ANY possibility that leaving three computers to defragment after work could cause the electricity to blow a fuse? (We got our IT chap to show us yesterday and three out of the four ladies in my office decided we should do this)
But when we came in this morning the power was out. A fuse had blown. Manager reckons that three computers was too much, but surely not. right?

if 3 computers are too much
then I would worry about the electrics in your place!

Nope.

No chance
Your boss sounds like my dad - he goes around the house switching off AND unplugging EVERYTHING before bed and before he goes out.

my old man
used to blame me for stuff going wrong

I recall our TV in the living room blowing it's tube.

just so happened that my folks were out, I had some mates round and one had brought his SNES with him.

It was clearly using the SNES on the TV that had broken it....

My grandfather used to forbid my father (when he was small) listening to any pop stations on the radio because it wasn't designed for that kind of music.

Thanks folks! Just wanted to check and see if this was ANOTHER thing I'd fucked up on, but I think not! :)

I'm assuming that during your working day you don't take it in turns to fire up your computer and do some work before shutting down for the next person?

electricity is pretty much the same during the day as at night

My answer
is the same as Vipros and No3l.

3 average computers will draw 600ish watts, defragging doesn't take much processing, only harddrive use, so would draw little more than it just sitting there.

If it blows a fuse, are all 3 computers off of the same socket? if so, then its dodgy electrics rather than the PCs fault.

If all 3 are on the same socket
It's not dodgy electronics so much as a bit of not being sensible.

Thats what I meant. Dodgy nonetheless. If they needed more sockets, then they should be installed properly, rather than Stetson Style (tm)

well
Thats what I'd tried to say, IT guy said it was ok to do, but I never asked to do mine, I just did, so obviously now its my fault. Apparently I've done something today thats got her goat and I must pay in any and all ways. Meh, Management!

and threaten her with its' spit.

Like the others have said
there's no chance whatsoever that defragging three machines would blow a fuse. The fuse was probably on it's way out anyway and it was just coincidence. That or there was a power surge and the fuse blew from that, in which case it was doing its job.
