Don't ever buy leasehold
The council scum who own the building will bleed you dry with huge bills for pointless work and all you can do is write angry letters.
Been in my flat 4 months and I've had bills for £4000. That's some service charge!

Princes House Limited and another v Distinctive Clubs Limited
tenant friendly case law.
also check out consumer action group websites, as lots of people who know stuff post good advice on there. 4k isn't worth going to see a solicitor yet, you'd spend that in fees, but freebie advice might help you sort it out..

@dchurch
Cheers and well done!
Your site got me off my arse to have a go at the fuckers (the banks). Sadly it looks too late as my claim is currently floating in the ether....

yeah,
the scumlords (as expected from people who think of nothing of pushing someone into the ground over a few quid) lost the first case, then appealled.
Common sense, decency and morals all dictate that they are in the wrong. Then the high court says the same.
Do you think they would get the message, and actually play the game fairly - like f*ck.
After all, they couldn't bare to have just a mere 9 billion a year in profits instead of 9.5 billion.
My heart bleeds for them.

Unfortunately everyone in the block is renting, old or decrepid so they don't have to pay!
Thanks for the advice I'll have a dig around the internets.

Are they maybe trying to stitch you up with more than your share?
(i.e. you're the only one they can ask for money, so they're trying to get you to bear more than 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 or whatever of the burden?)
I'd suggest asking them to produce at least two estimates for the work they say needs done, and work out your share from there. Also, if you can (and it won't cost you too much), get your own indpeendent estimate for comparison.
