Evening one and all
I had a reasonable day with year 5.

I had a letter from the general teaching council telling me that I am a qualified teacher! Hurrah.

They did manage to spell my street name wrong though. Dumb bastards, it's a perfectly ordinary English word.

Mrs L
you do "the stare"?

I'm a mummy who's very good at the stare. I have been known to use it in supermarkets on random brats, with some effect!

My hubby reckons I'd have made a good teacher, but I just don't have the patience. Not for the kids, for the bloody parents!
(, Fri 19 Sep 2008, 19:09, Reply)
I've just had
an inexplicable craving for shandy. And so I drove five miles to purchase the requisite items.

ahhh *shandies*

*tries to work that into something piratesque*

*fails*

Mrs L, I'm full of admiration for you. Children scare me in large quantities.
(, Fri 19 Sep 2008, 19:52, Reply)
WW I used to use
'the stare' on adults.

When I was working in the opticians I had to take a measurement of peoples eyes.
I was doing this for one woman and her boyfriend kept distracting her. I was not in the mood so I gave him 'the stare'.
He looked really sheepish and stopped.

*edit* Warmfuzzy, this is only Primary so not too bad. I don't like children outside of school, they behave very differently.

@Mrs Liveinabin
You say you managed to have your street misspelt even though it's got a perfectly normal English word in it. That's obviously where you're going wrong.

The name of my street curiously involves the word 'Meadowe'. Explaining that one over the phone is interesting, especially since half the people wonder what I'm on about as 'that's how it's normally spelt innit?'

*spangs*

Nings also, to all.

@Mrs Bin
After years of having hair that behaved and knew it's place, it has become unruly and petulant.

I may have to ground it.

My ears are actually far too large for my liking but I've learned to cope with the deformity.

Hmmmm....
Do I actually exist or is everyone ignoring me for a reason?

You are too good at this
Kaol.

I feel rather dim now.

Mrs L
That first clue you gave us, about the food and drink... Is it a single 11-letter word?
(, Fri 19 Sep 2008, 23:01, Reply)
Haha!
I'd not have got that if I hadn't read "American Gods" recently, they go on about making coins disappear by palming them in that, a lot.
(, Fri 19 Sep 2008, 23:02, Reply)
curse you
Mrs L!

I am obsessing over that clue, grr!
(, Fri 19 Sep 2008, 23:02, Reply)
I can't get that one.
I don't like sand, so I'm not thinking about it too much.
(, Fri 19 Sep 2008, 23:04, Reply)
The clue again is
Sand in food and drink - some of the good things in life? (5,3,3)
middle word is 'and'

*edit* We could be really sad one day and all have the crossword going at the same time.

When I was working in theatre one of my jobs was to knock on the actors dressingroom doors and tell them there was only an hour left, check they were ok etc. They all used to do the Guardian crossword. So, the first room I went in I would ask how they were doing. The next room I would 'help' them with their crossword by telling them the answers that the last guy had got right.
Everyone thought I was really good at crosswords!
(, Fri 19 Sep 2008, 23:04, Reply)
Think I've got it
Surprised you didn't see it Mrs L with your love of baking :)

Cakes and ale...
(, Fri 19 Sep 2008, 23:06, Reply)
Er...
What does that have to do with sand?

Yeah, I'm stupid.

Got it.
(, Fri 19 Sep 2008, 23:08, Reply)
Damn
you guys are too good.
(, Fri 19 Sep 2008, 23:12, Reply)
Any more?
*grins*
(, Fri 19 Sep 2008, 23:14, Reply)
It's just practice
The guys who work for me often have a couple of crosswords on the go around the office every day.

I used to be desperately shit at them, but I'm not too bad on some of the clues nowadays. I can nearly get 50% of them right eventually (hey - that's good for me!)
(, Fri 19 Sep 2008, 23:15, Reply)
Loads more
If I'm not boring you.

Hold me back and give support (7)

5th letter is an A

I don't know
*thinks*
(, Fri 19 Sep 2008, 23:21, Reply)
Restrain?
?

Hmm, no, I just counted the letters. That'll teach me to try too hard to get one right before anyone else does.

*feels like a fool*
(, Fri 19 Sep 2008, 23:26, Reply)
Well I'll
leave you with it Kaol.

I'm off to bed.

If you wanted to finish it of it's today's Guardian Crossword.

*edit* that's what I thought Warm. Too many letters.

You know what I said about who needs g's and h's anyway?

I think maybe you do.

Although it's much funnier without, and you sound like a rasta with a speech impediment.
(, Sat 20 Sep 2008, 0:33, Reply)
That's really quite hard to read.
But I got it.

For any idiots:

I'm guiding my pirate ship on a kitten-shaped path.
(, Sat 20 Sep 2008, 0:34, Reply)
I deciphered it
I just felt that if the conversation should take any kind of serious turn it might get farcical.

Which actually is no bad thing really...
