Right! I have a question
Which I may have asked before but what the hell.

I am looking for a pair of acceptable terms instead of "Boyfriend" and "Girlfriend".

As a few pointers, my G/F (for want of a better term) and I are 100 years old between us.

We do not live together (so that puts "partner" out of the equation).

How should we refer to each other in conversation?

Hmmmm...
Significant Other? Ladyfriend and guyfriend? Dunno, I've had the same problem. I finally resigned myself to boyfriend and girlfriend.

Or just lady and guy? "This is Xxx, my lady" or "I'll be bringing Captain Placid, my guy". As an American I really don't know what the equivalent terms would be over there...

Can you not just call her by her name?
Or call her your partner?

What's wrong with partner?
To my mind, it doesn't really matter if you live together or not. Partner's still OK.

I'm with Mike here
I've always thought of the term partner as an adult way of saying girlfriend/boyfriend. It makes it clear you're not married or engaged while communicating that you're, for want of a better term, an item.

while I agree with Mike (shock horror) and Captain V
I'd still like to put forward Tart and Vicar

@Vipros
Which one of my three suggestions are we in agreement on?
(, Tue 7 Oct 2008, 19:41, Reply)
i agree with partner
I don't think that infers that you live together.

I tended to go for 'other half' before we got married. In fact thinking about it I still do sometimes.

My bit of tasty skirt?
Crude but complimentary...

'The Mistress' sounds kinky but like she is in control.

'Ma Cherie' if you have a carnation chomped between your teeth

'My little sex bomb' if you want to embarrass her

How do Capitan, when did you say you were over The Street again?

EDIT actually, knowing your skillz for showmanship I suggest you DO carry about a carnation in a concelaed pocket, that you can whip out at a moments notice and pantomime the whole flamenco dancer routine on demand at any time :-)

thank you

my special ladyfriend or my horizontal mambo partner depending on context.

Isn't it a Jo Caulfield routine?
Something along the lines of "We'd been going out for ten years or so, so I wasn't sure how to refer to my boyfriend. So I asked him - 'how do you refer to me if you're talking about me with your mates?'

He said 'I don't know. I don't talk about you.'"

^ heh/huh
that about sums up my life.

My bloke has a problem with the term girlfriend. I told him he needed something better when introducing me than "my sister's friend who I met at my sister's wedding". He settled on "strumpet". A couple of weeks ago he described himself as my boyfriend though. Well, it's only taken a year.

Words is words is words is words. Whatever he calls me, I'm still that less-than-significant bint who force-feeds him vegetables, annoys his happiness, and gives him blow jobs.

Might I suggest "me woman"?
