Hmmmm.
I can remember when Tony Blair was elected here in 1997, the same sort of feeling occurred. Years of Tory twat rule over, "Things Can Only Get Better" playing constantly and the feeling that a bright new future was beginning.
Now it's years of Republican rule over, they're all saying "Yes We Can", and there's the feeling that a bright new future is beginning.
Call me an old cynic...

See, that's the difference
Over here, we don't like politicians much. We vote for the ones we dislike the least. Thus Blair was indeed the lesser of two evils, and he was OK for a while before things went tits-up as usual.

The Americans seem to be much more passionate about their politicians, and actually hero-worship them in some cases.

I genuinely like this one.
Thus far I have yet to hear him say anything that I really disagreed with. He seems to be a good man, someone I would hang out with. And he's my age, which helps as we were raised during the same time and seem to have pretty similar views...

He'd better not fuck up.
