So we got this Acorn Electron from Freecycle the otherday, and we are busy trying to load games.
Now you know how Wagon Wheels look smaller but they are not, it's just that you are bigger? Well I thought that the same was true of old computer software. You remember, you would put something on to load and it would be finished the next day. Well, it's not the case, they really do take a life time.
What else is how you remember?

In other news, since my bike was overhauled, my morning commute to work is now down to about 22 minutes.

I must admit that the last couple of series are shockingly poor though.
When I was little I used to really like that program bugs. Saw it on DVD a while back and, as they were cheap, decided to buy it. Wish I hadn't.

I'm looking at doing chemistry (again...).
I've been looking at the guardian lists only to end up with very mixed feelings although I'm not entirely sure why - I've got it in my head that I'll either go to Scotland (so St. Andrews or Edinburgh) or try to bugger off to America.
St. Andrews is top for chemistry according to the guardian and 11th in the times =/
I've also got no idea what the 5A 5B 4A etc. rating for research mean. Grrrrr.
I've no idea how long this idea will last anyway so I'm not sure why I'm fretting about it. Tomorrow I'll have decided that I simply must learn to ride a unicycle before I leave for Australia to save koala bears...

are everywhere over here- my kids used to get bottles of seltzer water and drop one in to make their own soda.
The memory I have as a small child was that the hill in back of my parents' house in Utica was fucking HUGE, the ultimate sledding hill, about fifty feet of drop over a couple hundred feet- about a 25% grade overall, steep at first and then leveling out toward the bottom. Riding a bike down that hill was tantamount to suicide as you'd be going at expressway speeds by the end of it across grass and would wipe out and wind up doing a face plant into the back of the Methodist church.
I went back there a few years ago and looked at that hill through the eyes of an adult, and thought about the concept of riding a bike down it now.
Far more fucking scary now than it ever was back then. If anything I had remembered the hill as being smaller than it is.

@ Loon
SOunds familiar. I used to skateboard down a ridiculously steep hill as a young 'un. Now you wouldn't even get me on a one of those rickety planks of death!

Yeah it was pretty uncomfortable. My housemate came in and poured water on my head to wake me up. Bastard.
( , Wed 26 Nov 2008, 19:56, Reply)

once in the late 70s a friend of mine and I rode our bikes from our little home village up to the other end of our chain of lakes and back. Coming back it was a couple of miles of fairly steep uphill road, and then about a half mile out of town it dropped back down again. I was going about 50 to 60 mph by the time I reached the bottom.
I reiterate: it was the 1970s. Crappy steel frame 10 speed- a Royce Union, as I recall. No helmet. Jeans and a tee shirt. Narrow road with trees overhanging it that are known to drop sticks on the pavement. Deer and chipmunks all around us in the woods, both of whom are known to dart out into the road at any moment. Hitting a chipmunk at that speed would have gone as badly for me as for the chipmunk, as it would have probably have been slippery.
Driving that route now in a car, I think back on that and shudder.

When I was at university I was woken up by somebody placing a traffic cone in front of me. I happened to be asleep, in a puddle, on the roof of the ground floor of a block of flats that I had no access to!
Fortunately one of the people who woke me up knew me so I climbed back onto the first floor balcony (which must have been where I got on the roof from) and then slept on the floor in her flat.
I'm pleased to say I don't drink so much anymore.

used to live in a small village just outside York, there was a hill next to a golf course. One winter my old man put me on a sled at the top and pushed me down... I ended up scooting down a hill, across the course and ended up in the freezing cold pond.

I sat there, mildly frustrated with the shitty music, when suddenly "Monsters In The Parasol" by Queens Of The Stone Age came on, swiftly followed by "Sleep Now In The Fire" by Rage Against The Machine.
The some crappy Westlife or Boyzone song.

Sounds like a good weekend.
Is it just me or is this the third time you've been to Cumbria these past two weeks?

If I end up going.
It's work-related, 500-mile round-trip.
But this time I've gotta come back "via" Norwich...
Ah well, it's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it.

Picking something up, then driving somewhere else to drop it off :p
Slate, in this case.
And on that rock and roll bombshell, I'm going for another whisky, another smoke, then to bed.
