Are you a QOTWer? Do you want to start a thread that isn't a direct answer to the current QOTW? Then this place, gentle poster, is your friend.

The things I love and hate about QOTW
There's been a lot of talk recently about the good, the bad and the ugly side of QOTW.

Here's a chance to get your views heard.

Do dull posts annoy you? Do you yearn for /all? Have you begun waiting for the Best page instead of reading through the entries?

Do badly-written posts get your back up, or does content prevail over execution?

Tell the internet what you think.

I like ladies' bottoms quite a fair bit

That's a given, Gilgers.

its a public forum
and as of humanity in general you have to take the nice, funny people along with the shambling knuckle scraping cunts.

hey ho, there is always the ignore, flame, abuse or hugs option depending.

To be honest
I haven't really read many stories recently. Partly because a lot of the questions haven't really been that inspiring, and partly because I just don't seem to have time.

Personally I think there's room for the funny, outrageous, thought provoking, sad, and inspiring stories, along with the terrible puns. As long as it's well written and relevant to the question, it shouldn't matter. But some people seem to think that QOTW should be about funny stories and nothing else. Usually the people that don't post on it very often.

Maybe it was originally, but it's changed.

Good posts receive leeway on spelling, punctuation and grammar...
...but not too much.

My only gripe is the posts which make no attempt to write a story and simply post a list, or write two words and 'enough said'. It seems to be lessening recently, though.

I would like to reiterate one of my earlier appeals

I like it when QotW makes me laugh. And if someone has a particularly touching story to tell, that can also be a joy to read. In both cases, I think good content can often be marred by poor execution.

I also have nothing against puns. Some are better than others, but I have just posted one myself, so it would be very hypocritical of me to raise any objection to them.

I also second Thomson's opinion on the smart-arse two-word posts. Occasionally they hit the nail on the head with a particularly good joke, but half the time they're just trying too hard to be clever.

I appreciate it when
people put 'not funny' at the start of their post as I don't like reading the morbid stuff.
As far as I'm concerned, everybody's had misery in their lives and I don't see the need to share it as it's always along the same lines - death, abuse, addiction, divorce, etc.
With a funny story there are no bounds as to what can happen. Whether it's true or not, there's always a surprise.

I'm with Gilgamesh on this one.
Back on topic (on off topic??)...

... I haven't felt particularly inspired by QOTW of late. The mischievous humour that originally drew me to post seems to have been lost along the way. Some of the posts are cathartic – and are all the better for it, however it’s attracted an element of twattish teenage amateur critics who simply bitch about posts being too long, not funny enough or all lies etc without at least having a crack at posting something themselves.

It just ruins it for everyone.

It’s been a while (with a handful of notable exceptions, all of whom hopefully know who they are) where I’ve read something and thought “fucking hell, I wish I could write like that”. I’m all for raising the standard of writing on here, but at the same time I’m happy to see posts from new people having a go at submitting something. It helps keep the place fresh.

To follow a point made yesterday by chickenlady, JMG can write quite well. He's not on my ignore list because he has a sense of humour and has an obvious writing ability.

I reckon he’d surprise us all. Everyone is bored of his trolling – although I strongly suspect he wants it this way. A sock puppet for someone else perhaps? Who knows.

I like JMG
because he can be quite funny. Not so much now that he's just repeating the same jokes over and over, but he has definitely made me chuckle a few times in the past. I don't mind him at all.

I don't like the lads that run around in his shadow though, trying to make themselves sound funny by apeing him. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, they say, but it's also the dullest.

I don't have any particular problem with anything else that gets posted, it's fair to say. The occasional bandwagon gets irritating but that happens all over the site, so meh.

I can't fucking put up with
dullness, poor grammar and spelling, dullness, poorly written shite, dullness and stories that are neither funny, touching, interesting or thought provoking, in fact they are DULL.

I can and do accept stories that are in poor taste, ageist, racist, sexist, animalist, any -ist actually providing they are FUNNY.

Oh, and I'm not too fond of those who are rather up themselves either.

We all shit, even the fucking Queen.

People "hugging" each other on the internet
Despicable. Makes me feel like killing people horribly. Thankfully seems to have gone from these parts.

A step up is offering imaginary food and drink. I can just about tolerate that, but still..
