my mate has been sent to a lovely hotel-type establishment operated by the government. He now gets free board and meals. This type of place is commonly known as a prison.
His crime: 5 wraps of heroin (0.5grams in total), and 5 rocks of crack.
Fair play, he really shouldn't have been doing such things but as addicts do, he shifted a bit in order to get his own stuff cheaper/ free and got caught.
This was his 1st offence, his 1st time in trouble with the police and he got 4 years!!!
A tad harsh?
EDIT: Yup, a prison sentence is deserved but I think the term is a bit excessive.

Although if you commit a crime and get away with it, that's fair game.

Four years sounds about right to me. Smack and crack are two drugs which can properly fuck you up.
/cousin died from heroin overdose

everybody's metabolism is different. For example what your mate may have dealt spikey - would have only been enouhg to get one person stoned, but for someone like myself, someone who is very easily and very quickly affected by any drugs (and I've proved this multiple times with alcohol, marijuana, codeine), it could very well be an overdose that kills them.
You don't know what the drugs are cut with unless you make them yourself. Therefore every drug is potentially able to kill someone.
I agree with no3l.

Any urge to have it is purely phsycological.
That's why a lot of smackheads can (for example) get knocked up for 3 days, go to score, and overdose on what was their usual amount.

that he should be made to pay, and a custodial sentence was the right sentence to pass, but 4 years?
I would have thought 2 would be more appropriate.

in the top grade drugs, which not only contribute to deaths and the destruction of peoples lives, it also leads to addicts committing crimes towards innocent parties.

And I agree completely - he was a twat and deserves to be punished.

But most of those sentences aren't long enough.

Thanks, I think that maybe exactly my line of thinking.
I'm a little sad as, although he was knocking out some of the most evil shit in the world, he was always a good friend and has been for 15years.

No need to knock the friendship on the head just yet though, is there? Maybe you can dislike the crime but still like him?

If you feel the need to murder someone, you run them over. Pathetic sentences like 18 months - 2 years isn't uncommon in such circumstances unfortunately.
( , Tue 12 May 2009, 14:11, Reply)

It should be Manslaughter at least.

Most sentences aren't long enough, and some conditions seem quite arbitrary.

or a knighthood or something.
Drugs are fun - if they kill you, tough shit.
You know that when you put them in you.
If you dont know that, tough shit - you probably deserved to die.
I do drugs.
I've sold drugs.
I've a cousin who is going to die of drugs.
It doesnt make any difference to me.

Considering that the penalty in a Crown court for possession / supply/intent of class As is life / an unlimited fine I'd say no, it's not a harsh penalty.
Even possession of class A on its own is a max of 7 years, so again, he's not been massively done.
Sorry to sound like a dick but that's how I see it :/

It's only fair.

What do we do with addicts?
Yep, we put them in a place with lots of other addicts - where hard drugs are easier to get than on the outside.
simples...
I just think that prison isn't the best solution to addiction.
As per usual Rabbit knows what he doesn't want - but doesn't have a clue about what he does want!
I guess a length gag would inappropriate here
