Tattoo
I've decided (and I'm not wasted, don't worry) that I'm going to get a tattoo. I was going to get one when I was 20 and wimped out - all of my friends got tattoos that could only be described as functional (we were all going to get tattoo'd on our shoulders service numbers and blood groups) but now ... now I'm going to get something that'll be appropriate.

So - here comes the request to the b3tan world: please advise on:

1. Placement
2. Design

My current thoughts on placement include my shoulderblade. I don't want it to be seen by any other than those that I'm happy showing it to (thus, not on the face, neck, hand etc). Designs are more of a concern - a large capital G with an iceberg inside a broken heart sounds appropriate.

A small cock
On your cock.

You know it makes sense.

One suggestion before you have it done
Draw the design out on a piece of paper, then leave it for a few weeks, where' you'll see it every day. You'll have this thing forever, so it gives you the chance to see the design every day and decide just how much you like it - if it's just a passing thing or a design you really, really like. Sounds like a good design for you - I'm no artist, but someone can probably come up with something.

Shoulder blade/back is the best place for something like that, that personal.

I recommend
6 months after settling on a design. As Hairpot said it's going to be with you for ever. I only regret the one on my back as it was an impulse thing when I was 16 and it is a proper slag tag :p

This is what I've been doing
My sister drew it out for me... over 2 years ago. Just need to overcome my fear of needles and get it done!

my advice would be to do millions of research first
I have 4.5 tattoos, all of which (apart from the 0.5) are my own designs, including a plains Indians rock art thing on my back and my favourite Greek proverb as an armband tat. First decide on the "genre" of design you'd like: arty, sentimental, personal, patriotic etc. Any tattoo artist worth their salt will be happy to apply transfers of possible designs in different places and in different sizes. That way you can have a leisurely peruse and ponder at home before you commit ink to skin. If you're attending Tightly's bash in 3 weeks I'd be more than happy to discuss this further "in the flesh" if you like? ;o)

Firstly, let me say that in my honest opinion you are not yet ready to be inked.
It is a permanent statement. Even if you get it burnt off in 10 years time, it will always be with you.
That you are asking us lot for a cool design suggests to me that you don't really know what you want on you. As such i would suggest not getting one just yet.

although the Butthole Surfers did say that it's better to regret something you have done than something you haven't done...

and just for the record...i got my Badger tattoo done at Abraxas in Paris (behind the Pompidou center) about 10 years ago whilst dirty-weekending with the1stmrsblaireau69 and off my tits on mdma.
it was an impulse buy and i don't regret it one little bit!!!

And let ME say
That B69 is an irresponsible buffoon and not a word he says ought to be taken seriously.

Y'alreet, Marra?

indeed i were and irresponsible buffoon...
and indeed may still be!!

although i have a tattoo i don't generally like them, just mine mainly.
partly because of my tattoo i will never be rid of my ex-wife...

You actually have a badger tat?
You sir are my new hero
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 23:21, Reply)

hence the username!
i put my money where my mouth is, like, eh.
just ask td...

I've never succumbed to the urge
But if I had it would be political, I think.

I don't like needles - at all, ever - which is why not.

I've just called you irresponsible but I'm at work in 7 hours and I'm still drinking. Pot 'n kettle 'n black, eh?

Gazzed you as well.
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 23:23, Reply)
indeed, you scrotey old fart!
gazzed you back about 20 minutes ago ;-)

Look 'ere
You must remember that I have to take frequent tab breaks.

So you did. I've replied.

You scrofulous scum-sucking pig.
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 23:32, Reply)
actually, i think you'll find that i'm...
a fetid halibut felcher...

at least according to no3l...
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 23:34, Reply)
I can talk with some authority on that subject.
As the dogs found a dead fish in the canal today, retrieved it (because they are retrievers, after all) then rolled in it's rotting remains.

They stunk in the back of the car all the way home.

Fetid piscine - not amusing.
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 23:45, Reply)
Damn
I believe it was scrofulous turbot felcher.

I have 3 tattos
I have Betty Boop on my stomach and on my back - but the only time they're seen in public is at the pool or beach when wearing a bikini.
The other one is on my leg, it's a sunflower - being a bit of a cripple means I'm constantly in jeans or trousers, but on the odd occasion when I do wear a skirt I'm more embarrassed about my knees than the tat.

If you're going to get one done, get it done where in 10 years time it's not going to be an every day topic of conversation.
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 23:50, Reply)
can you not get
a temporary one?
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 23:52, Reply)
just to like...
try it out?

FUCKING GENIUS!!!

I award 20 extra points to this individual ;-)
(, Sat 23 May 2009, 23:58, Reply)
bad idea
Ed... Have you actually made an attempt to talk to G? That kind of Tat is a seriously Baaad bad idea... :P Deal with THAT issue first eh??

Honestly? Do you want that sorta shit on you? Bugger your shoulder. At this point in your life go the whole hog. If you're going to get a tattoo now I think you should Pirate the hell up. Naked lady style right accross the chest, or on your arse. :D

Anything less smacks of midlife crisis wimpy style

I like the idea of getting a design and carrying it around with you, though in saying that, both of mine were spur of the moments and ten and seven years on I still love them... (In retrospect however neither of them are dealing with a burning, seemingly unrequited love)
(, Sun 24 May 2009, 1:10, Reply)

Good point - I hadn't clicked that the G represented the ex.

Ed, you're banned from getting a tattoo until you get your shit sorted.

I have spoken.
(, Sun 24 May 2009, 1:53, Reply)
indeed
There are some issues there... Talking to G should i feel be a major starting off point, rather than posting about it on here, where she will NEVER read about it... or know anything...
(, Sun 24 May 2009, 2:03, Reply)

I dont have any issues with anyone posting here to talk stuff through if they find it helps. But if your assumption is right and the G in the proposed tattoo represents the ex... well thats not something that should be encouraged imo.
(, Sun 24 May 2009, 2:16, Reply)
g
The G I swear totally totally represents the ex. Ed has been full of board messages bemoaning his lost love. He needs a kick up the proverbials to spur him into action...

Ed you know this is true!!
