Overkill
We're having burgers and sausages for tea and rather than do them under the grill in the kitchen, I dug the barbecue out and did them on that. Just to make it more interesting. A proper barbecue too, none of these gas-flamed efforts. I used plain tea-light candles to get the coals going. Plus, it feeds my pyromaniac tendencies.

Is it overkill, just for a few burgers?

I will expand on my original answer
Cooking on burning coals is extremely manly and also fun as there is the potential for something to go very wrong. You should do it as often as possible.

No.
It's very manly.

Just a touch,
but I bet it was damned good.
On a similar note my get together with a few geeky friends last weekend (for board games and munchkin) turned into inviting less geeky friends over for a bbq at an hours notice since it was too hot to play. Told everyone to bring some food (all the people here had had enough to drink that we couldnt drive to the shops), however in the end only 2 more people turned up. So there were 6 of us with food for about 10. Was great fun though :P

not in the least.
i've bbq'd 8 times in the last 2 weeks.
even going as far as using it to bake bread.
and roast a whole chicken.
(, Wed 1 Jul 2009, 20:52, Reply)
Doing a whole chicken is impressive
do you have a gas BBQ?
(, Wed 1 Jul 2009, 20:56, Reply)
nah, just a cheapo round kettle type, with a lid and ting.
patience is a virtue.
keep the chicken juices contained, so they don't extinguish the fireyness is all. and keep the lid on. and occasional extra fuel.

and be an awesome chef, like what i am!!! (14 years in the trade before i saw the light and fucked it off)

I intend to do this
when I get to fire up my new bbq. I have a hardcore kettle type one, fired by coals. should do a chicken a treat.
(, Wed 1 Jul 2009, 21:00, Reply)
I think a kettle BBQ
may have to be my next outdoor purchase. But I have have an awesome oil drum style one at the moment with two grills so it's great for big parties.

I have this

not used yet, but my parents have the next size up and it is insanely good.

I didn't pay that much btw

I think my dad has a very similar one
and it's worked very well in the past.

You need to post a picture of your face grinning manically over a pile of burning coals.
(, Wed 1 Jul 2009, 21:06, Reply)
once I fire it up I will do so
are these photo requests going to get more and more bizarre until you meet me?
(, Wed 1 Jul 2009, 21:09, Reply)
I don't think I ever want to meet you
the crushing disappointment that you are not in fact the prince of darkness is likely to really upset me.
(, Wed 1 Jul 2009, 21:16, Reply)
I can pretend
for you I'll turn up in hoofs, tail and horns (and suit)
(, Wed 1 Jul 2009, 21:23, Reply)
Awwwww
that's the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me!
(, Wed 1 Jul 2009, 21:29, Reply)
dear god
you need some looking after
(, Wed 1 Jul 2009, 21:37, Reply)
No, BBQ-ing is always worth it
Plus, cooking burgers and sausages inside leads to a smelly house.
(, Wed 1 Jul 2009, 20:58, Reply)
Not if you shut the door
or smother it with your oversized vagina.
(, Wed 1 Jul 2009, 20:59, Reply)
the only thing better than meat
is FLAME, clearly. A oombination of the two couldn't possibly result in fail (or overkill)
(, Wed 1 Jul 2009, 21:03, Reply)
God no!
Unless I need the oven or stovetop, I BBQ everything!
