Films
Last night, Mrs SVLA and two of the kids were going to go see the new Transformers film. They said I can come along on the condition I watch the first one beforehand. So, I put the DVD on. I thought it was quite good.

But then the bit where Optimus Prime et al arrive, and after that it just got bloody stupid. They went without me to an earlier showing and left me to tolerate the latter half of the film. What a let down.

I then put on my new DVD, "Gran Torino". Which was a million times better.

Have you been disappointed and then buoyed again shortly afterwards?

The French film Martyrs that I watched the other day
Intriguing, disturbing and gory for the first hour, then descends into Hostel-esque misogynistic torture for about twenty minutes which seemed like a cop-out. But then the ending. Fuck me, my jaw was on the floor!

Just reading the IMDB entry for that was a mindfuck in itself

The first one annoyed me. I fell asleep.
I have been told I'm going to see the second one at some point but I'm not feeling overly inspired. We went to see Ice Age 3 instead and that was awesome.
(, Sun 12 Jul 2009, 13:14, Reply)
I saw the second one a few days ago.
It's way too bloody long. And it's all graphics - the plot is terrible. Aesthetically very pleasing, but it's really just crap! :P

I want to see ice age3 but haven't seen ice age 2 yet.. :S
(, Sun 12 Jul 2009, 13:16, Reply)
All the Ice Age films rock.
You will love them both :) Buck in the third one is the best part of the entire film. Except Scrat.

Gran Torino is ace isn't it?
I went and saw that for my birthday. Was very spiffing :)

Umm - I was disappointed by my holidays but I got to go to a b3ta bash last week which was ace :D
(, Sun 12 Jul 2009, 13:14, Reply)
oooo! I forgot you were bashing!
I'm having the world's smallest bash next weekend :)
(, Sun 12 Jul 2009, 13:28, Reply)
it was ace.
very small - but very ace. :)
(, Sun 12 Jul 2009, 14:09, Reply)
Who attended?

(, Sun 12 Jul 2009, 14:54, Reply)
it waaaaaas

I saw Bruno with a homosexual.
It was BRILLIANT.

Then I had to walk home in the pouring rain in a hurry so I could go out.

That's more bathos.

I met a guy who looked like Yannis Philippakis with lip piercings :D He has my number. I hope he calls. But he won't. :)
(, Sun 12 Jul 2009, 13:26, Reply)
Noice!
Hope he does call, if not I'll cunt him in the fuck!
(, Sun 12 Jul 2009, 13:30, Reply)
I'll probably never see him again!
But he was pretty.
And PIERCED.
I've been wanting to try lip-piercings for a while.

The Dizzee Rascal cover of the Ting Tings is the best thing I've heard in ages.
(, Sun 12 Jul 2009, 13:31, Reply)
Lip piercings are great!
I've been promised a tongue piercing at some point soon, too...

Dizzee Rascal? Ting Tings? What is this wizardry?
(, Sun 12 Jul 2009, 13:33, Reply)
That's Not My Name.
It's actually hilarious.

I want to go out with some b3tans. Goddamn you all, you're all too old! :P
(please don't take this comment too seriously)

MAKING THIS CLEAR:
"go out" ≠ "have a relationship with"
"go out" = "go and get twatted at 5th Ave on vodka redbull and dance to RATM and the Ting Tings"

There there.

Actually, the guy who said he was too old for me texted last night. Score? Personally, I don't think 8-9 years is that bad. Not at this stage :)
(, Sun 12 Jul 2009, 13:40, Reply)
Not at all.
Age is a number, man. Older men can be fun.
(, Sun 12 Jul 2009, 13:41, Reply)
8-9 years is fine
I went out with a 29 year-old when I was 21. She taught me much:)
(, Sun 12 Jul 2009, 13:47, Reply)
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking :D

(, Sun 12 Jul 2009, 14:05, Reply)
Now I'm 29
and it's held me in very good stead.

Nicola, wherever you are now, I salute you.
(, Sun 12 Jul 2009, 14:08, Reply)
biggest age gap for me was six and a half years
older obviously.
(, Sun 12 Jul 2009, 14:56, Reply)
Biggest was probably 14-almost-15 (me) and 19 (him)
though there was 18 and 23.

The most shameful was 17 and 15.
Me and him.
With two boys.

Watchmen - utter tosh
/haven't read the comic though so had no idea what I was getting into - (and no, not 'graphic novel'. It's a comic. It's the name equivalent of those 'mature covers'
for the Harry Potter books so adults won't feel guilty reading them.)

Really enjoyed Gran Torino though, and Ice Age 3
(, Sun 12 Jul 2009, 13:29, Reply)
I enjoyed Watchmen
My boyfriend of the time is a massive comic geek, and he came out practically in tears because they "changed the best line". That made me giggle.

Because of him I actually want to read comics. I've got my eye on the Sandman series. ♥ Neil Gaiman.
(, Sun 12 Jul 2009, 13:31, Reply)
It was a pity that James Earle Haley went to the Christian Bale school for Voice Coaching
it was really distracting. One of several things that just annoyed me about the entire piece.
/This being said, I'll still probably watch the extended version when it comes out and give it another go.
(, Sun 12 Jul 2009, 13:33, Reply)
I watched it illegally :/
So I will rent/buy the DVD to make up for it.

I think I might read it, apparently it's good. There's a copy of Maus downstairs, that's probably more of a graphic novel, I'd have to say.
(, Sun 12 Jul 2009, 13:36, Reply)
I've started reading Maus.
It's heartbreaking but I love it.
(, Sun 12 Jul 2009, 13:45, Reply)
I love that book
Its comic art at its finest and saddest
(, Sun 12 Jul 2009, 14:52, Reply)
I had a choice between Gran TOurino and Babylon AD yesterday
My brother in law said Gran Tourino was rubbish so I watched Babylon AD. 30 hours later and I still feel cheated :(
