some interesting stuff on here
www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/columnists/christopherbooker/5462580/Global-warming-and-a-tale-of-two-planets.html

I can't help but wonder. If the stuff he quotes to support his article is true then a lot of people are a) stupid, or b) liars. I can believe that this is the case.

The original article came with a graph showing a significant divergence between change in temperature and CO2 ppm. Admittedly graphs can be manipulated to pretty much show whatever you want, but it's not the first time I've seen the same thing said.

edit: also, the polar bears are fine

further edit: I don't really have a stance on this, just interested in what is being said

"that if all buildings and pavements were painted white"
Wouldn't that exacerbate any effects of prolonged exposure to the sun?

Seems like he may be wrong
Some learned people have commented that the central premise of his argument, the declining temperatures in relation to CO2 in the atmosphere, is in fact taken into account in climate change models.

I'm with you: I haven't a fucking clue what's going on. Interesting though.

when most of the information you get is from politicians and journalists
it's difficult to know what to believe.

if it is well known among the scientists that CO2 is rising while temp is declining it seems unlikely that there would be the continual statements that CO2 is causing rising temperatures

A lot about climate change is exaggerated
Some of it is due to natural effects, some is exaggerated by people climbing on the bandwagon for political means, of being told to by others. I do think it is a real thing and that we need to change our lifestyle in some ways (great coming out of the mouth of the person who takes around 30 flights a year), but it's nowhere near as bad as it's made out.

The one thing that does concern me is running out of the lovely organic chemicals that we seem so intent on burning... the sooner we're on hydrogen fuel cells and electric cars, the better! Once we have a better way of getting the electricity for electrolysing hydrogen (interesting things going on there, a new catalyst has been found - urea).

I don't know what to think really
it comes back to the usual thing, most of the measures that are being suggested are sensible ones, it just bugs me that the emphasis is so much on CO2, but if that's what it takes to get joe public to go along with things then so be it.

it does slightly concern me that it means that more important things might be overlooked.

just got to count on the clever people keeping their heads down and getting on with developing nuclear fusion and cars that run on abundant stuff.

I distrust politicians
They lied to us over a war which has cost 100,000 lives to date. They lie daily over statistics, spending and spend our money like rockstars.

The fact that "climate change" is used to justify liberating £50bn a year in tax from us rankles me hugely, when less than 2% of that revenue is used for renewable energy programmes. We do have an urgent need to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, yet instead of legislation we have taxation.

Go figure.

I agree with you a lot on this
The government do seem intent on getting as much money out of us as possible, particularly using the green bandwagon. If they could put it back in to renewables, it would be great, particularly research. I don't mind my country being covered with windmills if it means they can close the bloody great power station I spend my day looking at (never mind that wind power isn't that great. Tidal is much better). We are going to run out of ALL resources eventually, so the more research in to renewables and recycling what we already have, the better.

While I agree that we are being steamrolled into a political answer on global warming

It's hard to take anyone seriously who claims to have defeated Darwinism in favour of (unintelligent design).
