I'm having a shit day - just found out I'm working all weekend and most of next week as well - so that's 11 days straight without a day off. This week I'll have done a 54 hour week.
But the worst bit of today (and the thing that really has made it a crappy day) - I killed a woodpecker. Poor bastard never stood a chance.
How's everyone else?

Poor sod flew infront of my train as I was doing 100mph and splatted itself all over the windscreen.
I don't mind pigeons commiting avian suicide, but not anything that's been a cartoon character.

If it's any consolation, I was cock-a-hoop this morning because it was sunny and everything was looking good and my friend's taking me for lunch.
Now it's gone dull, AND I've discovered I have until 10am on Monday to get lots done. And I know I won't, because I'm a lazy mare and I have more interesting things occupying my mind, so I'm thinking of excuses.

And to top it all - our useless IT section have installed a new proxy server which blocks... yes, you've guessed it - b3ta, facebook and pretty much every other site other than work related ones. They've even banned Tesco.com because there's alcohol for sale on it!

Isn't there some EU ruling about working hours?
Especially as I wouldn't want to be on a train full of people, going at 100+ mph when the driver's a bit sleepy...

Legally we must get 12 hours rest between shifts and we don't work more than 13 days in a row.
I'm pretty sure that the railway is exempt from the working time thingey too.

But you can be asked to sign a waiver allowing you to, legally, work more than 48 hours in a week.

It's an average of 48 hours over 16 weeks or so, so a couple of normal 40 or so hour weeks will most often make the WTD ineffective.

My wife was told after 16 months of testing (MRI scans, lumbar punctures etc) that she has got Multiple Sclerosis. Of course, it would be on the day the papers and news is full of Debbie Purdy being allowed to commit suicide....because of the pain of MS.
We decided to go out to a country pub for a meal to try and cheer ourselves up a bit. About 300 yards from the pub a fire engine screamed past us and went over the brow of a hill. We reached the summit to see 3 fire engines, 3 ambulances and a couple of cop cars. Yep, a major accident had happened minutes before, bang outside the pub. It looked like they were having to cut people out.
We turned around and went home. In a way it made us think that there WERE people having a worse day than us, but we are hoping for a slightly better day today.
