Home Sweet Home
Tonight's question: What easter-eggs would you like to see in computer-games?

Home Sweet Home

Wherever there are spectators, I'd like there to be a secret code that could turn them all into cats.

(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 19:23, Reply)
I like this,
The code for this should be FLUFFEHTIEM.
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 19:34, Reply)
Or even better
STOP! FLUFFEHTIEM

Can't pet this...

I now have visions of a game where you're playing MC Hammer in concert
and there's a big crowd of spectators. Your fingers are just aching to press on the keyboard.
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 19:51, Reply)
Anything that involves MC Hammer
is predisposed to lolz on an epic scale. And you need this addon for Firefox! https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/974
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 19:53, Reply)
Just do a Google Image Search for "Stop Hammertime"
I remember the video from back in the day. What I remember the most were MC Hammer's oversized trousers.

It seems like the tune was forgotten about and then appeared many years later as a meme.
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 20:12, Reply)
I totally forgot about it
until it resurfaced on the internets, and I don't think I saw the video till recently. The Hammertime flashmob on youtube is amazing, too!
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 20:16, Reply)
My best memory of MC Hammer
Back when I was 16, I was at my first teenage party that I'd been to for some time. I was very shy and at first mostly stuck with a very small group of friends and felt a bit lost and awkward. But when U Can't Touch This came on, I burst out of my shell and got up and danced! This won the admiration of several partygoers and I finally felt I had found my place at these parties - albeit briefly. Needless to say, I danced a few more times and started going to more parties and my life was never quite the same since...
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 20:23, Reply)
That's a great story.
"MC Hammer made me the man I am today." You should sell that to Take a Break, and make many shiny pounds!
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 21:00, Reply)
Actually
that story is a sub-plot of this story which is itself a sub-plot to part IV of my life-story.
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 21:04, Reply)
D'aww!
That's very sweet :)

Glad you liked it
Nobody had ever seen the contents of that letter until I posted it in the QOTW. I luv QOTW!

I luvz teh QOTW.

That week
I also posted this and this.

I've not had a worthwhile answer for any of the recent QOTWs and don't have the time to make up a non-answer anymore. I miss unemployment!
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 21:33, Reply)
Me neither.
Well, I sort of had one for food sex...
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 21:40, Reply)
Moar pirates!
Yarrr!
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 19:29, Reply)
Computer game characters or software pirates?

(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 19:33, Reply)
Characters :)
I feel that pirates are distinctly underused in games...
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 19:34, Reply)
Funnily enough, there are pirates in Age of Wonders
which is my favourite game EVAR!

Not sure how I could add pirates to Populous though...
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 19:40, Reply)
I still love Monkey Island 3 :)
... A pirate I was meant to be, trim the sails and roam the sea ...

Not sure what my favourite game EVAR is though. This will require more thought.
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 19:42, Reply)
I only made my list of favourite games ever somer 10 years after I first started playing games.
And the one that scored top was a 5 year old game (FYI it was Boulder Dash).
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 19:54, Reply)
I've played so many, especially since we got the PS3
but I think currently that honour must go to this.

Listening to Norwegian being played over a tannoy while in a semi-hungover state does sound a bit fucked up too.
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 19:57, Reply)
Haha!
Can't say I've ever been subjected to that!

How are we?
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 19:57, Reply)
Bored; flatmate's at work and nothing much is going on here.

(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 20:04, Reply)
Never good
My housemate has gone out for a 'walk' with one of his ladyfriends, so I'm sat being lonely with beer.

My life is awesome!
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 20:08, Reply)
He has more than one ladyfriend?
I'm here with music and contemplating eating something, since I haven't had dinner yet, but I have no idea what time flatmate is returning...
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 20:13, Reply)
Several
One of them he stole off me, which I'm none too happy about. But I can't say anything because I've (unintentionally) done it to him before.

Ah well, I'll get her another time!
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 20:22, Reply)
Mine's awsome too
Am also going out on plenty of walks with my walking group. If I meet someone interesting there, my walking may even lead to a 'walk'.

For some reason, playing something backwards makes me think everyone's speaking Norwegian.

Unfortunately for me
I know enough Dutch to understand the true meaning so it kind of spoils it for me :'-(
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 20:31, Reply)
I know about three words of Dutch
but I can get the gist because I speak German.
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 20:35, Reply)
I also learned German at school for a while
but whenever I'm in Germany, I still like to pretend I'm speaking German when in fact I'm probably just speaking Dutch with a German accent.
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 20:54, Reply)
Are you a Dutch type, good sir?

(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 21:00, Reply)
I'm English
but have had plenty of immersion in that language.
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 21:10, Reply)
Aha. I had wondered :)
My Dutch is "sorry" "hello" "kind regards" "refund" "the" "train" "delay" "fuckhead" and "best".
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 21:12, Reply)
And don't forget klootzak
which means bollock-bag.

(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 21:44, Reply)
Does Eurostar still use Dutch?
Back when it terminated at Waterloo, the signs were translated into Dutch too, but now, they're only in English and French.
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 21:55, Reply)
We still have menus in Dutch and still issue timetables in Dutch
and occasionally get letters in Dutch. Thing is with SPI, we're very limited in the signage we can have, since the station's owned by English Heritage, so that may explain the lack of Dutch.

Also, we've changed security contractors of late so you may not have to empty your pockets now...
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 22:00, Reply)
Woeiha!
That should also mean there's no longer a massive check-in time.

For some reason, I find being on a Eurostar train isolates me more from my surroundings than any other train.
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 22:13, Reply)
The refurb is coming
... soonish ... so that may well change it. Am looking forward to having a corner of the carriage, I must say!
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 22:14, Reply)
I meant that I don't really feel like I'm going through my surroundings.
Maybe it's because the train goes too fast to properly take it in, or maybe it's just that it skips the built-up areas.
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 22:42, Reply)
Haha!

Yes he is. I can't be arsed with the games myself, but I can see how they could be addictive...
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 20:15, Reply)
Sid Meier is indeed a Genius
I've got both Pirates, Civilisation IV and Civilisation IV Colonization but have yet to play either.

Bored and exhausted barmaid!
But I have to stay here and 'earn' my crust in this empty pub. And I've played everything on the jukebox one zillion times. What should I do?
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 20:15, Reply)
Build a catapult out of spoons and coffee stirrers.

(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 20:17, Reply)
Got no stirrers.
Spoons are metal. There's one customer in here and about 8 outside. Maybe I should go outside and shout "FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!"
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 20:29, Reply)
Bugger. That limits your options a bit.
Make them fight!
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 20:31, Reply)
I might just go to sleep over the bar.
Or practice whistling the Blue Peter theme. The old one, not the current one.

I've changed my mind!
Rickroll them!
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 20:46, Reply)

Four customers. Only one looked up...

(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 21:08, Reply)
It sounds like fun.
I'm plotting to rickroll my office, but suspect my boss knows this and this is why he won't teach me how to use the plasma screen software...
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 21:11, Reply)
Would that involve a password or is it just figuring out how to use the software?
I could probably make a few guesses to help you along your way.
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 21:24, Reply)
It's the password for the PC that has the software
as well as how to use it; it's a simple slideshowy thing that can also do videos and gifs. And would probably get me fired :(
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 21:31, Reply)
If you want to get fired
you should do something much more spectacular than a Rickroll.
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 21:39, Reply)
That's the thing, I don't want to get fired.
Then I won't be able to go to Paris for nothing any more!
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 21:45, Reply)
Unless your misdemeanour is running off to Paris and starting a new life for yourself there.

(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 22:14, Reply)
Well, I'll have an accomplice.
I shall go to the Pigalle and seek my fortune!
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 22:15, Reply)
It will certainly be a methaphorical voyage of self-discovery!

Find those bottles of oddly coloured drinks that hardly anyone orders
pour a shot of each and arrange them in a grid with rainbow pattern going in one direction, and arrange them by faint-ness of colour in the other direction.

And then secretly drink the lot when nobody's looking
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 20:34, Reply)
That's genius
I might have to drink a crate of Red Bull first.
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 20:36, Reply)
That will help you arrange them faster
plus you should invite someone to help you finish them off...
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 21:26, Reply)
*pfft*
"finish them off"
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 21:30, Reply)
I would
But there's nobody I who could get here in time. I'll just have to keep accepting this free wine from the gaffer...
(, Mon 17 Aug 2009, 21:48, Reply)
Then you should plan ahead
and invite more people in advance. If I came, I'd arrange the drinks in a 3D lattice of colours sorted by hue, saturation and lightness.
