Oh hell yeah
We should get all the awesome musicians and decide which software we like and then, actually, you wouldn't need to use the same software, just anything that records in .wav format, like Audacity or Reaper, I have N-track personally, but I digress, but then we could e-mail stuff around, or set up a central sit and upload and download would be better as otherwise the files would be too large to e-mail.

Pretty much any machine that's Pentium 4 or above
will be capable of running something basic. You just need a decent soundcard, and you can get decent external USB ones for about a ton.

it's the soundcard that will let me down
and I don't have a spare £100 at the moment. I may well up the campaign to buy a portable HD audio recorder that I started with my band. the one I have in mind acts as a computer interface as well.
