Tomorrow, I have every intention of buying a cheap acoustic guitar and twanging away like a mong on it until I get bored.
What's happening with the rest of your weekend?

I'll be going on this walk.
Went on another walk today which turned into pub-crawl (5 pubs in total).

I like events that spin out into longer, unplanned ones.

It was this walk. Was still recovering from last night when we got to the first pub which was where we met up. HAve been feeling sleepy but have perked up a bit.

"we're being healthy and walking... from pub to pub."

Hi there Spakka and Maladicta, how's it hanging?
@ Spakka - tremendous cover story for a pub crawl, I like it!
@ Maladicta - a new acoustic? You can never have too many guitars, a fact that my ex didn't understand. I now have far more gutars than wives and life is good! Spent most of yesterday stripping down, cleaning, fret dressing, setting the neck relief and restringing my latest purchase (Ovation CSD 225 doubleneck - took bloody ages!). I'll be doing much the same this morning to a cedar-top Ozark six-string and then playing my little socks off with Pooflake until I go for dinner at my G/F's place.
Does life get any better than this?

£15 for a lovely shiny acoustic.
Now what the fuck do I do with it?

for when the Crazy Old Lady across the street appears again. She can see through the curtains.

to continue the writing and recording of our epic masterpiece. Today's bill of fare includes the heavy metal section, the mellow guitar duet ending, and the hard house bit.

I need to hear the finished result!
(One string tuned so far out of a possible six).

it's going to be long though, it's already 29 minutes and we've got a good few movements to add...
we were hoping to maybe get a short run of vinyl copies when we're done, but I looked into it the other day and the cost is absurd.
So now we are thinking about making a record sleeve as if for vinyl and sticking a CD in it :-D
Hope the guitaring goes well. Feel free to ask silly questions if you need to!

about ten years ago. May get Flatmate to assist with the tuning since he's more musically inclined than me...
I really like the record sleeve idea; I'll buy a copy off you!

The best advice I can give is to find a song you really like and learn it! If you REALLY like the song you'll have plenty of motivation and an understanding of how it goes, what it should sound like etc. There are loads of great resources on the tinterweb for tuning, chords etc (I use chordie a lot - the key transposition feature is very useful for a musical illiterate like me).
Other than that, I bid you welcome to the wonderful world of painful fingers, broken nails and general frustration that is guitar playing!

I can think of rather a lot of slow, twangy acoustic stuff I have nestled on my hard drive that would be lovely to learn (John Denver. I r hippy).
I found a couple of tuning sites, and am currently looking into tabs for it (am not 100% sure it's been fully tuned, so will need to get Flatmate to have a look at it).
Currently, I also don't need a plectrum, since I need to cut my nails ;)

I play some fingerstyle (Ooer mrs!) so the nails on my right hand are long and short on the left. I got some invaluable advice from an old flamenco player about strengthening nails a few years ago - don't buy nail strengtheners (there are several potions on the market), just wipe the nails you want conditioned on any greasy part of your face. The natural oils really make a difference to the strength and condition of your nails.
Other than that, have fun playing!

he's always breaking nails. He plays like he's hitting it with a hammer most of the time.
for tabs, www.ultimate-guitar.com is the best resource I've found.

My nails are fortunately very strong and usually long-ish (don't let them grow too long or they go a bit Cruella De Vil which isn't nice).
I've also just snapped my G string and had to order a new one from amazon :(

..What with having lots of guitars lying about. I buy my acoustic strings in bulk - the D'Addario 25 set box is a bargain - but as I have a couple of unusual guitars* in the collection I have to keep some others in just in case.
I normally change full sets as the brightness of a new string in a 'mellowed out/played in' set tends to jar.
Any chance of a pic of the new purchase?
* The aforementioned double-neck, a 7-string (with an extra octave G) and a travel size which is Nashville strung. I know, I'm a geek.
Fnaarr - you said g string.

Pre string breakage:

Perhaps I should get the rest of them while I'm at it, then; Amazon will, after all, automatically recommend me a ton of guitar paraphernalia!
