Well
Waitrose had some 150g packets of Boursin garlic and herb soft cheese reduced to 55p a pack, and I'd considered some kind of dauphinause potato dish for tonight, so I sliced some potatoes, par-boiled them in home-made chicken stock while frying an onion. Once the potatoes were done, I drained the stock off and ladled into the onions while adding the Boursin to make a nice creamy sauce. Once seasoned with salt and pepper and a teaspoon of mustard powder, I layered the potatoes and a sprinkle of grated mature cheddar cheese into a glass baking dish and poured on the sauce, topped with a little cheese and black pepper and in the oven for three-quarters of an hour. I'm waiting for it now, but I must say the sauce is fucking brilliant.

I wanna feel the heat with somebody.

Oooo I wanna be with somebody.

With somebody who loves me.

I'm a busy man.
But I'd like to take some time to recommend that you eat a basic pasta dish.
Chop an onion and some bacon.
Cook it.
Boil up pasta.
Add a tin of chopped tomatoes to the bacon-stuff.
Throw in some basil if you've got it.
Serve.

I'm having a variation of this
www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/7740/onepot-chicken-pilaf

using some additional fresh veg. I can recommend it with green beans in. seems to work very nicely.

very easy to make and tasty

Nice!
I'm having goulash.
I made a fuck-load of it, so I've got enough frozen for about four two-person meals.
(, Mon 5 Oct 2009, 18:24, Reply)
mmmm, goulash
I've discovered souvlaki recently, and an ability to make delicious flatbread very very easily, so have mostly been eating that
(, Mon 5 Oct 2009, 18:26, Reply)
Flatbread eh...
Go on...

get food processor
chuck in one and a half cups of plain flour
pinch of salt
with processor running drizzle in a tablespoon of olive oil, then steadily pour in about half a cup of water until the dough is moist, and kind of sticky, but not too sticky or too moist. might need to add more flour or water.
can shove in some other flavour too if you fancy it.

turn it out onto a floured surface, split into 4 or 6, depending how big you want them and roll them out till they are about as thin as you can get them.

cook on a griddle pan, under a stonking hot grill or on a bbq until they are golden brown.
(, Mon 5 Oct 2009, 18:35, Reply)
This is excellent,
I shall be doing it soon!
(, Mon 5 Oct 2009, 18:36, Reply)
I'd been looking for a recipe for ages
and most of them seemed kind of arcane, but this one had so few ingredients and stuff that I thought I'd give it a bash and it works really nicely.

getting them really thin is pretty important, otherwise they char on the outside and are just dough on the inside. they totally inflate under the grill which is amusing, but you have to be careful of them touching the flames, or the element
(, Mon 5 Oct 2009, 18:39, Reply)
Yeah, it's so damn simple
That it's worth a try!
(, Mon 5 Oct 2009, 18:42, Reply)
was that Mel's attitude to you?

(, Mon 5 Oct 2009, 18:47, Reply)
Oh snap!
I reckon so.
That and I cook a mighty fine chilli.
(, Mon 5 Oct 2009, 18:48, Reply)
cooking a good chilli is an essential man skill
along with making fire and other such things.

But if it is, murder tastes fuckin' good.

If cows don't want to be eaten then they shouldn't be a) so badly camouflaged and b) so damn tasty, especially rare with a peppercorn sauce.
(, Mon 5 Oct 2009, 19:21, Reply)
Or so stupid.

(, Mon 5 Oct 2009, 19:21, Reply)
Actually I don't have a problem with eating meat per se, it's more to do with animal husbandry.
No such thing as free rang meat when I became a veggie.
(, Mon 5 Oct 2009, 19:24, Reply)
You shouldn't have
Married a sheep then.
(, Mon 5 Oct 2009, 19:25, Reply)
i don't recall mentioning meat up there ^^^.
all i said was "quorn? bleh!"

which is simply a statement of fact. er i mean opinion.

no, i mean fact.
(, Mon 5 Oct 2009, 19:26, Reply)
As a born-vegetarian
and having stuck it out for 29 years, I can confidently tell you Quorn would be a reasonable alternative if you were never going to eat meat again. It's nothing compared to the taste and texture of meat, but it's better than nothing.
(, Mon 5 Oct 2009, 19:46, Reply)
A check out girl asked me if quorn ham tasted like ham.
I told her I couldn't remember. *laughs*
(, Mon 5 Oct 2009, 20:01, Reply)
Of course it tastes like ham
and it is kinda textured similarly. But it's not ham :)
(, Mon 5 Oct 2009, 20:15, Reply)
I'm what I call a crap vegetarian.
Fish are cold blooded, so they're fine to eat. Chickens are so ugly and stupid (they don't even have the sense to die when you pull their heads off) so they deserve to be eaten. I'm uncomfortable eating fluffy animals with appealing eyes.
(, Mon 5 Oct 2009, 19:32, Reply)
You should try rabbit and Care-Bear.

(, Mon 5 Oct 2009, 19:48, Reply)
You can't really empathize with a fish and they are free range till caught.
Hence my return to eating them.
(, Mon 5 Oct 2009, 20:02, Reply)
Pescatarian!
When I was vege, I didn't eat fish or eggs either. I'm just making up for lost time now.
(, Mon 5 Oct 2009, 20:17, Reply)
You've just reminded me of a Legless classic.
A few years ago, I remember him arguing with a staunch veggie. His point was that since cows are herbivores, then eating beef/steak was a matter of eating recycled grass. He almost had the veggie convinced :)
(, Mon 5 Oct 2009, 19:35, Reply)
Leek, Bacon and Mushroom Risotto.
It is all of the nom and cheap too.

Failing that, you could eat a rancid tramps earlobe.
(, Mon 5 Oct 2009, 19:20, Reply)
I worked out when I was at uni I could make a vegetable rissoto for one for 19p.
