Seen as my previous question is no longer required, I suppose another is in order.
What is your favourite non-live action film ever? (By this, I simply mean anything that wasn't filmed with actors, so it could be Lion King, Toy Story, My Neighbour Totoro, Wallace & Gromit, etc)
Mine has to be Akira. The colours, the story, the utter mindfuck of it all, I absolutely love it. When you take into account the fact that it's 21 years old now, and still fucking with people, it just shows how strong a film it truly is!
Your turn.

but it has to be the same outcome...Akira is absolutely incredible, i saw it in the cinema in 1990. i could barely speak for about 2 days. There was this one time where i attempted to watch it on LSD...i failed at about the point where Tetsuo is dreaming and he is in the kids park and he looks at his arm and it begins to crumble.....PUT IT OFF PLEASE.
I recently got hold of the blu-ray version, but have yet to afford it my full attention.
EDIT to say, that Yellow Submarine is the most gentle, jolly and subversive film you are ever likely to see this side of a microdot. Went to the cinema to see it about 9 years ago when the re-released it...bottled out of asking the zombie usherette if i could get the massive poster in the foyer.

But I preferred Ghost in the Shell
Just thought I'd stir up a bit of a debate...

preferred Ghost in the Shell 2 - Innocence, mindye. It had more of an art-house feel, some super smooth animation, which i enjoyed very much.
Ever seen a quirky, yet very fucked up cartoon called, 'Cat Soup'?
www.imdb.com/title/tt0385586/
My favourite short cartoon has to be from the Animatrix, called Beyond... the one where the kids find the 'haunted' house. Lovely stuff.

Best non live action film? Any of the Rocky films. They made that lead character look so life like. The voice artist made a good job of making him sound like a punch drunk thick cunt, too.
Remarkable achievement considering the technology available at the time.

I'm not really a fan of manga stuff... don't really get it!?

That Japanese shit is wierd and not in an interesting way. I love watching cartoons with my nephew but whenever the Japanese ones come on I get bored.

For some reason whenever I see a manga character get angry it makes me think of Dogtanion when he used to get angry... I have no idea why!?!

Same style of "animation", hence your association. Fucking irritating theme song, too.
My, I'm in a chipper mood today.

I now have the theme tune in my head - garrrr!

is absolute shite to be honest, barely a step up from Pokemon. Then there are the odd exceptions, where the animation and set pieces is truly astonishing. Appleseed is a good example...it uses all manner of rotoscoping techniques to convey incredibly lifelike and mind boggling scenes.
The guy who made Akira recently done a film called Steamboy, which is based in the Steampunk scene, whereby Victorian England is awash with massive mecha vehicles and weapons, all powered by steam. Its good, but it's no Akira.

Some of it sounds interesting... but I think I'll stick to Die Hard for my action fix! 'Ho ho ho! Now I've got a machine gun'
( , Wed 7 Oct 2009, 11:10, Reply)

Now I've said it I'll probably have to watch it this weekend... maybe in a marathon with Cliffhanger and The Rock!! OooooOOOooooh! :D
( , Wed 7 Oct 2009, 11:17, Reply)

is really into Bleach and Hellsing and something else that I can't remember the name of.
It's shite. The animation is crap, the dubbing execrable, and, more to the point, IT ALL LOOKS THE FUCKING SAME!!! Every character has the same angular features, made to look slightly different from each other by having different hair or bigger eyes. Or tits.

It makes me do a little cry. Plague Dogs is pretty good as well, despite the change to the original ending.
Also a massive fan of the Lion King and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles -that was aceness!
And Akira is pretty fuckin ace!

Got it on DVD, haha.
Still love Kehaar "You stupid bunnies!"

Stunning film, and I see something new every time.
( , Wed 7 Oct 2009, 11:11, Reply)

that thinks Akira and Ghost in the Shell were tedious, self-indulgent shite?
( , Wed 7 Oct 2009, 11:18, Reply)

I think you might be alone with that opinion... how do you feel about Die Hard? :)
( , Wed 7 Oct 2009, 11:20, Reply)

no-one has mentioned the original, the best, the only Transformers movie.
Orson Welles, Judd Nelson, Leonard Nimoy and Eric Idle! Best film ever shurely?

I'm quite surprised that Spikeypickle didn't raise it.
Maybe he's gone insane?

Robotech\Macross. Lovingly remembered.
But on a serious note would Through a Glass Darkly count? I liked that.
