I feel rough - sent myself home from work today at 3 and slept till 20 minutes ago. So why do I still think I'm not sick enough to be at home?
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 19:16, 42 replies, latest was 16 years ago)
Sorry you're still sick :(
I made my doc wee with laughter when I told him the shot was turning me into a "batshit mentalist"

Wish my doctor had a sense of humour!
All the ones I've ever seen have been miserable cunts, even when I told them about the side effects I had on the pill "pains in your legs are normal, the mood swings are normal".

My boss wanted to send me home this morning because I coughed my guts up after laughing at something in a disturbingly consumptive manner, and I said I was fine but later on coughed so much I gave myself a headache and threw in the towel for the day... took two hours' lieu, came home and slept. Still a bit headachy and very stuffed up. Woe.
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 19:26, Reply)
Woe indeed, being sick sucks
My doc is awesome, young and gorgeous! He took me off the depo, gave me Prozac but for 6 months I can't use birth control. Its been 13 yrs since I had a period.
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 19:31, Reply)
Oh my, that could be a shock to the system!
When I first came off the pill it was bad enough and I never skipped a break - another reason I won't go back on it...

I'm on my second lemsip since lunchtime and have made it semi-bearable with cordial in it.
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 19:36, Reply)
That's longer than the victorian period.
Maybe not told with historic acreacy
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 19:53, Reply)
Depends - one of Queen Victoria's kids
had a blood disorder so maybe she did bleed for quite some time...
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 20:06, Reply)
last time I went to the doctor she told me I should consider not having sex
I went in for a cold
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 19:29, Reply)
Spectacular logic from the medical professionals, there.
Sexy tiem is good for you!
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 19:30, Reply)
Ugh, because I'm not on bc, she made me take a test before putting me on antibiotics, asked about my parters
asked about my status then suggested I try to practice abstinence, if not for myself then for my future, in case I want to get married etc etc

seriously? just give me the fucking meds, it's not like I'm here ASKING FOR ADVICE
I know what a condom is, how to use it, and I do. This still has absolutely nothing to do with my chest cold.
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 19:43, Reply)
Mine asked if I needed a supply of condoms
I don't, as boyf has been snipped, but the look on docs face was priceless when I told him he was 60! He thought by "older man" I meant around 45
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 19:48, Reply)
Your boyfriend is 60?
I'd call that a manfriend.
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 19:54, Reply)
Abstinence can fuck off - I'll abstain if I want, not if the doctor wants!
I'm not a huge fan of doctors - don't currently have a GP - and will only go if something is actually hanging off me or I suspect I'm dying. They don't care too much for me either!
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 19:49, Reply)
Seriously, she looked like a mormon, I wanted to punch her in her stupid blonde head.
I don't go unless I'm seriously ill, and I was pretty sick when I went--had been coughing, wheezing, sniffling for about two weeks, still took two weeks after than to get somewhat back to normal.
Cunt.
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 19:54, Reply)
Sounds like some of the ones I've seen - doctors can have really strange ideas about
sex and life in spite of knowing the actual facts! The last thing you want when you think you're ill is, after all, someone telling you you're just fine when you know you're not. Do second opinions cost you in the US?
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 20:04, Reply)
It costs the first and the second, unless you go to the free clinic...which is basically for poor pregnant teens, homeless people and drug addicts. It kind of scares me.
If you don't have insurance it costs you out of the wazoo for hospital visits, but thankfully there is a relatively cheap office with loads of doctors you can go to around here. Which is where she was.
I just remembered she wasn't even a doctor, she was a resident.
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 20:11, Reply)
Ahh. I think it costs here but the last time I recall having one I was 5 and it wasn't my decision.
If she wasn't even a doctor, even more reason for her to be considered to be talking out of her arse, says I... nurses with ideas above their station are also shockingly bad.
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 20:15, Reply)
oh god oh god NURSES
My friend's grandfather is in ICU, they thought he was going to die and when we went to go visit him the nurse in that station totally bitched us out, told me and her boyfriend to go wait in the waiting area. Waiting Room Nazi, I called her after that.
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 20:18, Reply)
They are ALL NAZIS.
The one who used to replenish my pill supply at uni used to act like treating me was more than her job's worth because I clearly should be able to do these things by ESP...
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 20:25, Reply)
Obviously we can treat ourselves, christ all we need is some TUSSIN, RIGHT?!

(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 20:28, Reply)
is that robutussin?
the cough syrup?
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 20:32, Reply)
yeah, ya know "put some tussin on it"

(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 20:36, Reply)
never heard that one before
but you can fix a sore throat by gargling with soluble aspirin
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 20:37, Reply)
Something else is also good for sore throats...
...as various male friends keep reminding me.
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 20:45, Reply)
Sorry about that - was on a conference call.
I was in the hospital a couple weeks ago overnight, I just got a bill for $4K, but as I'm officially "unemployed" there's a great program that means the bill is only $500. Yay!
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 21:57, Reply)
well, if you're sick you should stay home to get better
I always hated calling out at my old job because they bitched at you. Cunts.
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 19:28, Reply)
The thing is, I rarely take time off even as leave and I'm up for promotion in the next little while
so I'm in I'm So Awesome You Should Completely Promote Me mode.

and I had my entire bank of desks essentially saying "Mal, you're sick, go home so we don't get it..." so they care as much about themselves as me!

Charming of them to bitch you out - it's your fault you're ill, of course?
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 19:31, Reply)
You're lucky !
These women were unbelievably catty, vindictive, manipulative and two-faced.

I'm definitely not the best employee they ever had but there's no reason to treat people the way they did.
Cunts.
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 19:41, Reply)
They've moved my desk around so now I'm on a bank with all girls.
Yesterday we spent 10 minutes extolling the posterial prowess of Mr Jon Bon Jovi.

I'm usually very conscientious but even though my head was pounding and I was coughing up phlegm I thought there were neon words saying "SKIVER" over my head :(
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 19:47, Reply)
at least they were supportive !
I've been told "Well, you have to get someone to cover your shift. You'd BETTER have a doctor's note!" Bitches.
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 19:56, Reply)
Whereas if I even sniff my boss asks if I need to go home!
I should really have gone when she asked this morning...
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 20:03, Reply)
I find its best to take a day off if your feeling even a little unwell.
The rest nips the illness in the bud. going in makes you worse so you'll need more time off later.
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 20:33, Reply)
My boss told me I should have taken yesterday off
as it came on over the weekend (probably from how cold the weather's got and the fact I refuse to stop wearing my thin silk corset coat). Now I think I've pushed it a bit :(
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 20:46, Reply)
I know what you feel like
I had a sick day due to a car crash and felt guilty for letting others down.
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 20:35, Reply)
I was more worried that as I was meant to be doing bank transfers
me being in a state where I feel shit would do more harm than good and I'd make a lot more mistakes, so better to have me off when I'm not at my best. I'll see how I feel tomorrow.
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 20:47, Reply)
makes sense to me
I'll check OT for more information on this tomorrow
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 20:49, Reply)
Eh, but I still feel guilty because I'm not *that* ill to me - it's just a really bad cold.

(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 21:01, Reply)
I feel fuckin' 'orible, to be honest.
My stomach hurts, my back hurts, I haven't slept last night (so I've now been up for 32 around hours), I want to quit my job straight away, right now, but they'll try and convince me to stay on 'till after christmas and I'll agree. It's shit wages that doesn't even hit close to minimum wage, 1/4 the people I work with are absolute scum who I show extream content for, 1/2 of the people are so fucking thick it's no wonder they're where they are, and the other 1/4 are genuinly nice people. And most of all, I genuinly hate myself again because of this place.
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 19:49, Reply)
Aw, dude.
I agree that you need to get out of there if it's making you ill; 25% nice versus 75% cunts to work with is not good odds. Especially not if they're making you hate yourself! What's available around and about/within a reasonable distance by Tube/bus?
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 20:02, Reply)
Minimum wage
They don't pay you the minimum wage? Isn't that illegal?
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 20:20, Reply)
though it does explain your excitement over buget supermarkets within walking distance

(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 20:38, Reply)
Aw, sorry
Gonz! Hope you feel better soon!
(, Tue 17 Nov 2009, 21:56, Reply)
Because you're the kind of martyr who goes into work, whining looking for attention due to being a bit ill.
And then, when you;re home, realise you miss the attention, so go looking for it online?
