I have an interview tomorrow and I am absolutely shitting it. I know I can do the job, it's the interview part I hate.
Distract me? Tell me of the songs that make you cry. Or laugh.

Or even when watching fucking American Idol, when it's just a person and a mic it really gets me going, I have no idea why. I may not cry cry but have tears in my eyes.
A lot of country songs get me, too.
Speaking of music, I think I may give up food for the week and instead buy the New Moon soundtrack.
(, Mon 7 Dec 2009, 19:29, Reply)
I literally can't listen to because they make me bawl. One of them is You Were Mine by the Dixie Chicks. I don't even like the fucking Dixie Chicks.
This is not a nice week.

I also forgot I Knew Love by Nanci Griffith. And Who Wants To Live Forever from Highlander.

interviews suck!
"Wichita Lineman" makes me cry a little sometimes and i'd go with "The Galaxy Song" for laughs.

For laughs every time I'd have to go with Special Olympics or Never Gonna Give You Up.

I still have it somewhere around here... my music collection has grown a fair bit lately.
Also, this is THE most horrendous song ever. It should be the anthem of 4chan.

Check this shit out:
RCA Student radically improves the UK plug.
This is unbelievably awesome. I'll take a dozen. No, two dozen.

because the geek thinks, "Why didn't I think of that?"
(, Mon 7 Dec 2009, 19:41, Reply)
is that the cable come out of the bottom. Wouldn't it be more efficient to have it come out the middle US style?
(, Mon 7 Dec 2009, 19:44, Reply)
because then people would try to pull out the plug by pulling on the cable. One big advantage of UK plugs is that it's difficult to do that, which means fewer accidental disconnections, and fewer problems with cables pulling out of the plug body.

B-side to The crying scene 12" single. Gets me every single time without fail. Every time. I can never find it on the internet though. Probably a good thing - the lyrics would probably give away far more about me than I should reveal.
Dunno how anyone would go about getting hold of that these days. Think you'd need a record player and to know your way around ebay. It's kinda nice to know certain things just can't be found in 30 seconds on the internet.
(, Mon 7 Dec 2009, 19:38, Reply)
but you're right, it's completely absent. The one that resonates equally with me right now I won't even mention since it will involve googling the lyrics and I don't want to do that.
(, Mon 7 Dec 2009, 19:42, Reply)
so full time complaints handling and no more opening letters and counting envelopes :D I know I can do it, but I really, really hate interviews...

Only bought the skirt and top on Saturday :( hopefully as the shirt is under the jumper it'll all be OK...
(, Mon 7 Dec 2009, 21:05, Reply)
I can definitely do the job, and I'll likely be loafing along doing it without effort. I was calm and relaxed in the interview, even joked around a little- when they said they'd run a background check on me and asked if I had any skeletons in the closet I said "No, I don't have any criminal record. Of course if you ask my ex-wife you might hear a lot of bad things..."
Weirdly, the only music that regularly brings tears to my eyes is some of Pink Floyd's and David Gilmour's work. There's just something about the beauty of his guitar that blows right through me like a wind through a screen and takes me to a different place. Not sure why.

My old housemate was very possessive about her Swiss cookware. Plus I was ok, it was an alkali burn, those can be cured by washing the affected area with coke.

nah, this was crappy cheap stuff while I was living in Switzerland. I was cooking something and Stalker Girl started screeching for my attention so I turned and arm collided with hot pan...

I had an Italian professor at uni who hated us drinking Coke, because his uncle had worked in a Coke factory in Turin and tossed random things into the vat. "They all dissolved, so what is it doing to your insides, eh?"

(, Mon 7 Dec 2009, 22:13, Reply)
On the one hand, I'd be an engineer doing drafting- probably I'll be bored homicidal after a time by it. On the other hand, it's a job.
Meanwhile, lately I've been spending a bit of time with this guy. I've taken apart a number of pianos now, and have come across some really exquisite wood for instruments in the process. I've given it to Tom, who's in the process of making it into guitars, mandolins and ukuleles. As the wood is about a century old and is more than well seasoned and is old growth lumber, the instruments should be fantastic.
(, Mon 7 Dec 2009, 21:42, Reply)
Is it steady work?
(, Mon 7 Dec 2009, 21:52, Reply)
I haven't made any real profit from this yet. However, if Tom's instruments really take off I might see if I can start marketing wood to luthiers and start offering to take old pianos from peoples' homes, especially those that are old and wrecked. (I wouldn't want to dismantle pianos in good condition, as they're still usable.)
But even if I got demand for it, I can't imagine it would ever be enough to pay the bills.
(, Mon 7 Dec 2009, 21:56, Reply)
Still, I hope you get this job, then you can do what you enjoy in your spare time, right?
