Apparently, it's going to snow this week, or already has. Do you have any, b3tans, or has it all melted?
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 19:27, 53 replies, latest was 16 years ago)
None here,
but if I look towards the mountains in the distance, there's some on the top.
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 19:38, Reply)
We had a sprinkling earlier but it's not stuck.
All work stopped as 15 grown men and women stared dreamily out of the office windows at it... and then we remembered we're a TOC and snow is bad.
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 19:40, Reply)
none here neever :-(
i love the snow!
evening ladies, how are you?
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 19:55, Reply)
Aw :( apparently we're getting some later this week
which had better not strand me in Lille on Friday...

I'm good thank you good sir, just polishing off a bit of Häagen-Dazs left over from the weekend and wondering how you stop straws rising up out of carbonated drinks.
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 19:59, Reply)
that old chestnut, aye?
the problem's the condensation nucleii, or some shit, aye!
i have often pondered this very issue.
perhaps smearing the outside of the straw with something water based yet not water soluble? some kinda fancy, new fangled kindova gel?
we need to ask a real scientist, not just a pretend one like me!
perhaps batshitangelgabriel can supply us with fish slime and we can all be squillionairs!!!
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 20:10, Reply)
Sounds good, because it infuriates me to high hell
and I'm sick of forcing the straw back into the glass. I've tried sucking it, stirring it to get some of the fizz out of the coke in general, blowing bubbles, and just pushing it back in constantly...
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 20:13, Reply)
try this!
hold the straw just off the bottom of the recepticle, gentle like, then tap the bugger with yer fingy to release the bubbles. i reckon if you repeat that a few times at intervals of a few minutes then the problem may vanish before yer very eyes!
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 20:27, Reply)
It works, it works!
*dances*

The irony of this being my biggest problem at the moment is not lost on me. No.
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 20:33, Reply)
Snow!
There's a covering here - not looking forwards to my 3am journey into work... nor the chaos on the trains if it does snow over night - 'twas -5 when I got up this morning at 2:30am!
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 20:13, Reply)
*pout*
You're a little way away and you have snow, and we peasants in Trashford have none :( it looks icy out there now, so at 3am it's likely to be most failsome for you...

And that is why I'm not train crew.
Seriously though, you may get to drive a nice shiny 395, which I grudgingly admit is superior in every way to the 373, but I'd not want to deal with customers the way you do (only have to actually interact with them if something explodes). Why will they not let you have tasers again?
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 20:55, Reply)
i picked the Polish in-laws up from E'burgh late sunday night...
coming over Beattock summit about half-2 it was minus six and a half.
brrrrr!
fucking screenwash froze!
bollocks. had to get out and piss on the windscreen.
the in-laws were bemused.
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 20:32, Reply)
So your inlaws have seen your cock?
This is not good, surely?
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 20:33, Reply)
well it was cold and dark so maybe not?
i haven't mentioned it and neither have they.
suits me fine.
wonder what mrsblaireau will think when i tell her...
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 20:41, Reply)
If I were your Mrs I'd laugh :)
I never want the parents to see any future incarnation of Mr Maladicta's pride and joy, but I hope for your sake they didn't see anything!
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 20:55, Reply)
i'll tell her tonight when she gets back from her workses do.
she'll be half pissed so it'll be safer then...
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 21:58, Reply)
There's a chance she may not remember tomorrow, amirite?

(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 22:02, Reply)
nope
it's just pissing down.

But, Boston in Lincs. is supposed to be the place to be.
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 20:05, Reply)
I'm sure that's the first time anyone's said that about Boston.
It looks to be dry and snowless here now, but very, very cold :(
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 20:12, Reply)
i went to a gig in boston lincs '89/'90, awful place imbho
it was the day after i worked at the mudhoney gig at the su in nottingham.
i was a bit ill off partying til t'early 'ours and fell asleep propped up at the bar. i think it was tackhead playing? can't remember cos i only saw the support then went sparko. next thing i knew i was in the street!
that place is tainted for me.
bad memories dude.

alright broadsword
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 21:05, Reply)
it's pretty much all gone here, it took about two weeks though
I'm glad.
Snow isn't so bad I guess but I hate ice.
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 21:07, Reply)
Worst thing ever = when snow thaws a bit then freezes again.
A doubly bad combination when hurrying to lectures you should have been at five minutes ago, or blind drunk and it's dark.
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 21:19, Reply)
or even worse, when you're sober and you fall anyway

(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 21:27, Reply)
Not least because it hurts more to fall on your arse
when you're sober.
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 21:36, Reply)
I slipped and landed right on my arse in the middle of the street once, I panicked because I thought I'd get hit by a car
so I did that thing where you scramble backwards [like in horror films] and then I looked around to see if anyone saw me and I felt super embarrassed

then I realised it was 3 in the morning and then I felt stupid for thinking I'd get hit by a car or that anyone would see me struggling and falling on ice.

Oh, I recall nights like this staggering across campus
singing selections from Monty Python and deciding the logical solution to loads of us being out in the cold on a February night was to walk along under a kingsize duvet.
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 21:52, Reply)
hahahahaha brilliant

(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 21:53, Reply)
Quite what campus security
thought of an apparent caterpillar, staggering and singing "sit on my face and tell me that you love me" is anyone's guess...
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 21:54, Reply)
my mates and I were quite partial to Rachel Stevens, because they had a few of her songs at work, my mate and I loved her
so we'd stagger about home from the pub singing loudly some song that we alone knew the words to [so good and queen]
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 21:56, Reply)
Everyone, in the world, ever
knows all the words to Bohemian Rhapsody.

100% of fact.
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 22:02, Reply)
this is where you're wrong
right here

I didn't know any of the words until the clip of graham norton on father ted
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 22:03, Reply)
Ah yes, where he gets stuck under the rocks in the Very Dark Caves ("it's almost like being blind!")
"Let's have a SCREECHING COMPETITION!"

It snowed here today.
Which was really nice as it was our Christmas party.
In the afternoon it was really coming down thick so I stopped the lesson and let the class go out and play.
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 21:08, Reply)
You are an awesome teacher :D
I'd have loved to get away from my computer this afternoon and go out and frolic in it, even if it didn't stick...
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 21:19, Reply)
Well played! ;-)
i had a few teachers like that at the combined-site infants/juniors i went to.

Ours were all cunts.

The funny thing was that
They were making snow angels, on concrete, in less than one mm of snow.
When we got back in we took our shoes and socks of and put them on the radiator to dry out. Then we danced to Christmas songs until hometime.

Let's face it I wasn't going to get anything taught.
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 22:18, Reply)
No way - there's a poem about trying to teach kids when there's snow involved.
It's in either Please Mrs Butler or Heard it in the Playground :)
(, Wed 16 Dec 2009, 22:26, Reply)
It's in Please Mrs Butler I think
I love that book. It's still in print with the same cover.
Hurrah.

Only Snow
Outside the sky was almost brown
The clouds were hanging low
When suddenly the air around
Was full of whirling snow

The children rushed to the window
the teacher let them go
But she smiled at their foolishness
After all, it was only snow

It was only snow that was falling
Only out of the sky
Only onto the turning earth
before the blink of an eye

what else could it do from up there
But fall in the usual way?
It was only weather, really.
What else could you say?

The teacher sat at the back of the class,
Putting little ticks in a row
While the children pressed close to the steaming glass
Watching the only snow.

That's the one!
Please Mrs Butler
This boy Derek Drew
Keeps copying my work, Miss.
What shall I do?

Go and sit in the hall, dear.
Go and sit in the sink.
Take your books on the roof, my lamb.
Do whatever you think.

Please Mrs Butler
This boy Derek Drew
Keeps taking my rubber, Miss.
What shall I do?

Keep it in your hand, dear.
Hide it up your vest.
Swallow it if you like, love.
Do what you think best.

Please Mrs Butler
This boy Derek Drew
Keeps calling me rude names, Miss.
What shall I do?

Lock yourself in the cupboard, dear.
Run away to sea.
Do whatever you can, my flower.
But don't ask me!

Still absolutely love those poems :D

It's a Puzzle
My friend
Is not my friend any more
She has secrets from me
And goes about with Tracy Hacket

I would get her back,
Only do not want to say so.
So I pretend
To have secrets from her
And go about with Alice Banks

But what bothers me is,
Maybe she is pretending
And would like me back
Only does not want to say so.

In which case
Maybe it bothers her
That I am pretending.
But if we are both pretending,
Then really we are friends
And do not know it.

On the other hand,
How can we be friends
And have secrets from each other
And go about with other people?

My friend
Is not my friend any more,
Unless she is pretending.
I cannot think what to do.
It is a puzzle.
