Last night
I left my office at six and trudged through the snow to the tube. Despite my having London Underground updates set up on my phone AND having checked their website before leaving ('Northern Line: good service') there was no fucking service at all. Back up the hill to the main road to wait 45mins for a non-existent bus.

Out of nowhere came a black cab and joyously I was able to hail it. Nearly two hours later I'd travelled the distance of just four tube stops at a cost of £53.80. Got back onto the tube at Archway and finished my journey.

So, £53.80 and three and a half hours just to get home from work whilst horribly ill, with soaking wet feet and chilled to the very marrow.

My question is, do you think I have a chance of getting the cab fare back from my employer? I have the receipt.

Nightmare scenario,
someone somewhere is raking it in due to this weather related nonsense, rubbing their be-gloved hands in anticipation of the fall out.

Not sure if your employer is liable, surely London Transport of whatever it is should be liable. Should be. They won't however, they have clever lawyers draw up their terms and conditions so that unless there is nuclear catastophe, or a terrorist bumming, then they pay you, the weary traveller, hee fucking haw.

Just say you might not be able to make it in next time because of trouble getting home.
And wave the receipt infront of him.

or you could subtly hint that you might take £53.80 worth from his wife/children

It's not like it was in my day
You used to be able to have a good few months of sending letters to the police taunting them etc before you got caught - nowadays it's all 'DNA matches' and the like.

Bloody rubbish, it is.

If he doesn't, there's only one thing you can do
PUNCH HIM IN THE FACE!

I fear you are correct.
I shall give him just once chance to do the right thing, before I administer GHETTO JUSTICE.

I used to do judo
The little girl from down my road took the same class. When she whupped my ass three weeks in a row I gave up.

The shame.

I can only assume that a
'punch in the face' doesn't figure in the Judo world?

It does

So
Why didn't you walk?

When I moved from the country to Manchester I was shocked at the short distances people would drive or take th bus.
