New Years Eve
Anyone else been let down at (almost) the last minute and looking like they'll be spending the night watching Jools Holland or is it just me?

Original plan: 9 people, indie night mucho alkeyhole.

New plan: Everyone doing their own thing with their significant others, Mullered has no significant other and has no desire to spend the evening with any of these couples as they cook a nice dinner and open a bottle of expensive red whilst I sit in the corner with a vat of cloudy cider.

Stay in
and watch T.V. on your own, perhaps with a bottle of the cheapest Vodka you can find. Then cry yourself to sleep!

or go to a club and find
someone else on their own

problem solved

Last night I said I'd go to a party, but I'm not going
I hate New Year. I hate having to hug and kiss everyone in the room and vary between "Happy New Year" and "All the best".
I have just broken up with my significant other but I wouldn't have seen him anyway because he lives miles away and is working New Years Day. I didn't mind anyway. All I want to do is sit in with the cat really.

Buddy, that doesn't sound all that bad
Fuck the so called mates, let them do their own thing. Hogmany is just like ANY other night, why folk put so much emphasis on it is beyond me. The stupid cunts who are determined to cram themselves into shitey boozers and pay over the odds for everything, then pretend to themselves that 'New Year is brilliant innit', can go right ahead and do just that.

I fucking HATE New Year and all the accompanying twaddle. IT'S ONLY A FUCKING DATE, IT HAS NO SIGNIFICANCE WHATSOVER, GROW UP AND STOP BEING A CUNT. I love to party as much as the next person, but all this synchronised jolliment really pisses on my chips.

Last year a few friends and their and their kids came round, we indulged in steak pie and roast spuds, and when The 'fucking' Bells came round, i managed to get by without having to say Happy New Year to any of them. It makes my skin crawl, my soul cringe and my knob shrivel.

Why anyone would want to venture out in to the freezing cold to stand in the street and listen to a host of barely remembered 80's pop 'legends' is frankly insane. If I want to party with the people I care about, i can do so in fucking July or any month for that matter, at any time, for any reason.

Understand what you are saying but..
The fact I've been blown-out in favour of them all doing the staying-at-home-with-the-bird option just brings home the fact that I'm very much on my own at the moment and that on the night of resolutions, hope and best-wishes, I'll be on my own.

My revised plan is to drink enough that I pass out at about half-ten and I'll see the New Year in fast asleep in a alcohol induced coma.

Why are you on your own just cos you haven't got a bird/fella?
The world's your oyster, kid.
That's how I see it. Swings and roundabouts.

WIN!
I won't even have to head into town to do that, I can find a victim locally if needs be.

Once again you speak for me, too, old son,
I couldn't give a flying toss about NYE. I'm going to babysit my daughter and read my book on Genghis Khan, with the occasional reefer of fine Afghani hashish out the window.
(, Wed 30 Dec 2009, 12:28, Reply)
Ooo, which book?
I have read all 3 of Conn Igguldons books based on GK (good boys own stuff)
(, Wed 30 Dec 2009, 12:31, Reply)
I've read them too - excellent stuff, aren't they?
This is an academic work. 'Genghis K: Life, Death & Insurrection' by John Man.

So far so brilliant. Have you seen Mongol? An ace, ace film - but a sequel is urgently needed. It only covers the v early period, none of the conquest stuff.
(, Wed 30 Dec 2009, 12:41, Reply)
Havent seen it yet, but I will
I read Conns books on Julias Ceasar as well, it rekindled my fascination with the Romans (I even watch the occasional Time Team if they are digging up a villa or wotnot).

Mate I LOVE all that stuff (I read the Caesar one too)
Despite the fact that all I do on here is say things are shit all day, I'm actually a history nut. My degree is in Classical Civilisation and I am constantly reading history books - fictional or otherwise. I DO LIKE SOME THINGS.

I thoroughly recommend the Shardlake books by CJ Sansom, set in the Tudor period. They are thoroughly excellent: the chap is a mightily talented writer.

I'm one of those
cunts

i love NYE - house parties and dressing up and fireworks - woo!
(, Wed 30 Dec 2009, 12:38, Reply)
I'll probably be doing just that this year.
I'm not too fussed about New Year's anymore. It was fun when I was younger, and I'd be interested in going up North for Hogmanay one year, just for the change, but otherwise my Excite-0-meter is running on flatline.
(, Wed 30 Dec 2009, 12:28, Reply)
Just go to the indie night anyway
I do stuff on my own all the time
(, Wed 30 Dec 2009, 12:33, Reply)
If it was a normal
Saturday night or something, then yeah, I would go on my own. However, with the cost of cabs running into the billions at this time of year, getting home is going to cost more (on my own) then the rest of the night.

There are no cheap hotel rooms available either.

And I'm not attractive enough to expect to pull and spend the early hours having the sex with a woman.

Sex sex sex
Have some cheese and shush

I'm staying in
Was going to this place called Planet Angel in Bethnal Green but just decided I can't be arsed. It's no different than going out normally except a load of twats are about and cabs cost double. Tickets are 35 quid, and although there's a large group of my friends going and there will most certainly be lots of sex, drugs, rock and/or roll I've decided to stay in.

I know I'll get the dying itch to go out around ten/eleven tomorrow but I shall stay strong.

stay in barry
EDIT don't stay in Barry.
I meant "Stay in, Barry"
or can I call you Sean?
