in fact I even own the 45 of it. But everything else he's ever done has been awful - and he ruined Raw Power by The Stooges with his spasticated mix. For that alone - let alone the video to 'Ashes to Ashes', he should be shot in the face.

I like Echoes
in part because when really stoned it goes well with the end weird bit of 2001: A space odyssey.
it also has sonar noises. must remember to use those in my stuff.

My father does an incredible sonar impression
His 'I'm in a WWII submarine' routines were captivating to us as children. Up there with his 'polar explorer' one, replete with howling wind noises.

But I love it. There.

I think most people who like him would think Absolute beginners was pap.
I like it because it has that chord progression that takes you with it, like old-fashioned pop or Phil Spector or something.

There are more sweet and quixotic moments on Tractor's first LP than in the whole pretentious career of David Jones, the cheesy solo artist, sorry I meant r&b howler, sorry I meant trippy spaceman, sorry I meant theatrical mime performer, sorry I mean plastic soul artiste, sorry I meant 80s MOR stadium bender, sorry I meant JUNGLIST MASSIVE.

both films are fine
Actually The Man Who Fell to Earth is an excellent film, but the accompanying music is utter tosh for both, if you ask me. Which, in fairness, you did.
My little sister LOVES Labyrinth - it has an innocent charm to it, and the MC Escher bits are visually excellent, but Dave's gay songs severely jeopardise my enjoyment.
