What 70's Neo-Noir movies and/or undisputed classics of cinema have you discovered for the first time recently?

I may watch it tonight.
(, Mon 8 Mar 2010, 15:05, Reply)
but in a good way. Trouble is, now I won't be able to watch it without thinking what a nonce the director is.

Well he probably was, but you know what I mean.
Anyway, it's fucking brilliant.
(, Mon 8 Mar 2010, 15:18, Reply)
It isn't 70s, neo-noir or classic.
But it was so awesome I thought I'd mention it anyway. Surfing penguins, what's not to like? Also, it had extra helpings of James Woods.

that film gets my complete support
it's brilliant

they're like child butlers with beaks. Who wouldn't want to touch them?
(, Mon 8 Mar 2010, 15:22, Reply)
where the pengiuns are free to walk amongst you*. technically I have touched one with my shoe.
*not just in the street, it's an aquarium type place
(, Mon 8 Mar 2010, 15:25, Reply)
they have underwater tunnels where you can see the penguins and seals swimming about above and beside you
(, Mon 8 Mar 2010, 15:29, Reply)
at Blue Planet, only probably a bit less scary
(, Mon 8 Mar 2010, 15:40, Reply)
Touch the Penguins? If you look like you've got food they come over and mug you.

Her boyfriend looks like Matt Bellamy

true. Unless you look like Edward Norton, in which case I will upgrade.

Such a beautiful, gut-wrenching film. I cried, and cried and cried.

I haven't seen the Notebook, it may well be awesome. The above is a knee-jerk reaction.

I am taking the piss. Last film I saw that I would deem good enough to be a classic is probably La Tourneuse du Pages (The Page Turner). Immense revenge film. The main character is so cold and emotionless throughout the whole thing you've no idea what she's planning or thinking.
(, Mon 8 Mar 2010, 15:24, Reply)
The second one sounds more made up that the first
(, Mon 8 Mar 2010, 15:26, Reply)
and stick it on Lovefilm. Thanks for the recommendation :-)

(unless you end up hating it and by extension me)
Said central character is a hawt lady if it helps.
(, Mon 8 Mar 2010, 15:51, Reply)
I said it was a pile of button-pressing sentimental guff.
But I wept and wept :(
(, Mon 8 Mar 2010, 15:32, Reply)
It's your favourite film ever, it is. You love the director you do.
(, Mon 8 Mar 2010, 15:40, Reply)
Actually, yes I am.
I was in a right mess, that I do not deny, but I never once said it held any merit! In fact I compared it to something from the Hallmark Channel.
(, Mon 8 Mar 2010, 15:43, Reply)
It's just all true story telemovies and tear-jerkers.
(, Mon 8 Mar 2010, 15:47, Reply)
and she's not far behind when she's just watched one of those films.
(, Mon 8 Mar 2010, 15:52, Reply)
I am easy to wind up. That's why I'm so susceptible to shit films, cheesy pop, villiainous men, and chemicals.
(, Mon 8 Mar 2010, 15:55, Reply)
'Morgan - a Suitable case for Treatment', 'Oh, Lucky Man', and 'If ' again to see if they are anywhere as good as I remember.
I did see The Big Sleep with Robert Mitchum recently and was impressed. Directed by ever-loveable Michael Winner, it is a little cheesy in places. But then so's my knob and that's impressive too. Raymond Chandler set in England, for those that care.

are the bit with the machine gun, and the bit were they pull out a big drawer in the Dean's office (or somewhere like that) and there is a person in it who sits up and has a conversation
(, Mon 8 Mar 2010, 15:30, Reply)
Unless you're on a fuckload of drugs when you watch it
(, Mon 8 Mar 2010, 15:33, Reply)
Just try watching Wizard of Oz (obvious example) stone cold and without the Pink Floyd soundtrack.
Oh, just me then?
